Prohibition will certainly stop these unknowable evils!

Ah, the Roaring 20's. Iconic in American history for gangsters, rum-runners, and of course ancient, eldritch horrors beyond the veils of reality. Such is the focus for Witchmarsh, where the most hardboiled stereotypes from the 1920's team up to solve the mysterious disappearance of twelve men and women.

Witchmarsh is a four player co-op side scrolling RPG / adventure game. You and your buddies take on the role of a large cast of playable investigators with their own skills, talents, and personalities. Check out the trailer to see how it plays:

Character based skills and abilities? Action based RPG combat? Exploration and puzzle solving? Swanky Big Band tunes guaranteed to make even the stuffiest bird do the Charleston? Sign me up!

With various character specialties and dialogue trees, this game seems like an RPG Metroidvania set in classic Americana. Add in three other players to help explore and solve puzzles, and you've got the formula for a truly unique experience.

Normally, we don't make note of games still on Kickstarter. However, Witchmarsh has not only been funded, but it has also secured Chucklefish (the folks behind Starbound) as a publisher. And besides, any game set in the Jazz Age immediately wins my unwavering admiration. While the game has already met their (rather modest) goal, you can still donate to help them implement new features and playable characters.
