Halo: The Master Chief Collection Co-Op Explained

Starring everyone's favorite buddy cops: Detective Master Chief and Investigator Arbiter.

It's nearly time to wrangle up your posse and relive the glory days of cracking Covenant skulls in Halo: The Master Chief Collection. But with four different games to plow through, how many of your homies will be able to join you through Mr. Chief's magical journey? Fear not, intrepid Space Marines: I have the answers you seek.

Here is a breakdown of how you can play with buddies for each game in the Chief Collection, straight from the mouths of our friends down at 343 Studios:

  • Halo: CE Anniversary – 2 players max, split-screen or online
  • Halo 2: Anniversary – 2 players max, split-screen or online
  • Halo 3 – 4 players max online, 2 players max split-screen
  • Halo 4 – 4 players max online, 2 players max split-screen

There you have it. No need to invite sixteen people to crash land on the original Halo. Two Spartans going back to back (and the countless AI marines destined to run into enemy fire and die) can waste that original assault. And, you and a buddy can chum it up Chief and Arbiter style on Halo 2 in online co-op for the first time. Unfortunately for couch co-op enthusiasts with a need to cram a full party on one sofa, not even the power of current gen can bring us four player split-screen for any of these four titles.
