Welcome to Co-Optimus!

Nicholas "bapenguin" Puleo January 28th, 2008 at 8:38 AM

I still remember my first cooperative gaming experience in Doom on the PC.  The day I brought home my 14.4 modem so a buddy and I could experience all the carnage the game has to offer online.  Side by side fighting the endless horde from hell.  Anyone who has ever played a game cooperatively knows the experience is like no other.

For quite some time gamers cried out to developers to have a co-op mode in their games.  For what seemed like years, games that allowed you to have the same experience with a buddy were few and far between.  But it seems developers have finally heard our cries as more and more titles are including a co-op mode out of the box.  There are even games being designed from the ground up as a co-op experience.

So with that, we've launched Co-Optimus.com.  Everything game you see on this site has a co-op mode in it.  We'll tell you how many friends you can play with, if you can play online, splitscreen, and more.  Anything you need to know about that game that pertains to cooperative gameplay...we'll tell you.

Looking for the perfect co-op experience?  Give our Advanced search a try.  Simply click the little button in the top right:

Finally to celebrate our launch we are giving away a few games this week.  How do you enter?  Simply sign up for an account on our forums and I'll randomly pick the winners at the end of the week.  What are we giving away?

1 Copy of Burnout Paradise for the Xbox 360.
1 Code for Omega 5 for the Xbox Live Arcade.
1 Code for Tron for the Xbox Live Arcade.

So browse the site, let us know what you think.

About damn time.

Most review and game information sites say nothing about co-op making it hard to find out if the option is even there.

There are so many titles that would just rock if they had co-op. Experiences are fun, but shared experiences tower above any single player plot, crazed frag fest, mind blowing physics or amazing gameplay.

Thanks for setting this up!

I think this is a really great idea, especially from the angle of the forum. I've had a lot of fun co-op gaming experiences over 20 years of gaming. I think the first I can remember was the original Contra, which was actually so addicting and fun as a co-op experience that my parents started playing with me, and Snake Rattle and Roll. Both games were released on the NES. I did play atari first, but NES was definately the system, partially due to some of the co-op experiences I had, that got me into gaming. 20 years later, I play everything from Rainbow Six:Vegas to Madden 08 with a co-op element.

Thank you so much for making this site! It is made of awesome. I am always looking (struggling to find) co-op games that I can play with my friends, and most especially with my wife (no shooters, etc...). This site will make it so much easier, and will help us last till the mother of all co-opers comes out, LittleBigPlanet!

A minor quibble with your game give-away, what's with all the xbox360? How about some PS3, Wii, etc. love?
Cheers,
scratchh

THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU for making this site!!!! this is the greatest premise for a new website i have seen in a long e'ffing time! i really look forward to being an avid reader of Co-Optimus. having 3 siblings and plenty of friends/relatives who regularly visit, i am always looking for great co-op games. there have been plenty of great games that i did not care for because of the unforgivable omission of offline multiplayer. e.g. i just sent back Burnout Paradise after renting it for 1 day because they ditched Party Crash mode.

in my opinion, the current state of video games has been falling recently with the new trend of excluding offline multiplayer games and only 1-player-per-console online. i love Call of Duty 4, but i would love it 10x more if we could do system link 4-players per console, play online with 4-players per console, or at least 4-player splitscreen with some bots. i'll save some of this ranting for another time. as you may be able to tell, i am very excited for this site. glad to be here for it, and i am looking forward to a lot!

Fantastic! I wish more games had co-op, preferably online co-op. I'm really pleased to see this site. Perfect for the kind of information I'm often after.

Definitely a great idea for a site! I cannot wait to see this community grow at an alarming rate... then it's only a matter of time before we can pursued the dev teams to do our bidding! Co-op fans unite!

I agree 100%! CoD4 should definitely have at least 2-player co-op! Games that already have AI teammates are a perfect fit. Or at least have a bot-multiplayer mode. The biggest rip-off is the Battlefield game for Xbox360. It has bots in the single player mode, but not online!! How ridiculous is that?! As a programmer myself, I understand that there are certain restrictions and time constraints, but when the game already has bots built-in, how hard is it to add them into the online component of the game?

I've been saying for years we needed a gaming site that focused on coop. It's one of my favorite aspects of gaming, and yet games don't really give a lot of info often on "how" the game is coop. Crackdown [xbox 360"> was a game I was really excited about, but only being online coop soured the entire experience, until a friend brought over a 360 and we set up two TV's side by side for a weekend. Then it was way too much fun.

Anyways great site I can see so much potential here and plan to help add as much as I can. I'm just just happy someone else thought the community needed a coop gaming site, but luckily wasn't nearly as lazy as I when it comes to playing with the HTML.

Great, I play coop since my first gaming experiences. I'm 14 now, and I started on my dad's Amiga, playing Double Dragon coop with him =D
The thing that makes coop cool is still the same...
Fighting together with friends against some big army, and then beating it makes you feel like the unbeatable team
I really think its a good idea to create a site about coop, and more and more developers should put it in their games!
