Local Split-Screen Confirmed for Terminator: Salvation

GamePro.com has a nice, optimistic two-page preview of Terminator: Salvation, the prequel tie-in game to the upcoming movie. According to the preview, we will have the chance to blow away Skynet mechs with a local co-op buddy come May 19th:

Two-player cooperative play [is] a heavy emphasis in Terminator Salvation. And though co-op is currently limited to split-screen play, the developer is hoping to add an online co-op component before the game ships this May.

The preview goes on to describe portions of the game that will include on-rails shooting segments and portions that require a measure of stealth.

Graphically, the game looks good - especially the effects. It sounds pretty generic in terms of gameplay, but we know that adding co-op to mediocre games can supplement the experience. We've posted an embedded trailer after the "Read More" link for you to decide for yourself.

There just aren't enough games that feature local split screen. Of course, since I never have anyone over I guess it shouldn't matter to me. =)

Sweet! Local co-op I always seem to enjoy more than online, and if a game lacks local co-op or multiplayer (but includes an online function) I refuse to support it with my dollars. Great article. I hope we see more local co-op/multiplayer games because for a while there this gen has been flooded with online-only multiplayer/co-op affairs.

While I enjoy local co-op, online co-op is my primary means of co-op. Cause frankly I just don't have anyone near by to play.

Also, about them "hoping to add an online co-op component before the game ships this May.", why are developers making big changes like this, this close to release?

And for those of you who don't think it's a big change. Trust me it IS. Cause then you have to test it and make sure latency is solid. Especially if you don't design the game with that addition in mind, then it's a matter of shoehorning it in there.

I imagine that making a movie tie-in game includes meeting a very strict deadline.

The nice thing is that it sounds like they've already started work on the online co-op inclusion...maybe it's something that will be relatively simple to patch in...?

Well, yeah I'd imagine movie tie-ins are rushed. But they seriously need to fix that process
