“Gears of War® 2” Enlists 5 Million Recruits Worldwide; “Gears of War 2: All Fronts Collection” Launches July 28 Unleashing All-New Campaign and Multiplayer Content
Global entertainment phenomenon launches a new assault at retail stores and Xbox LIVE this summer
“Gears of War 2,” the entertainment blockbuster of 2008, has surpassed 5 million copies sold worldwide, and the overall “Gears of War” franchise unit sales have eclipsed the 11 million unit mark. The momentum doesn’t stop there – to commemorate these milestones, Microsoft Game Studios and Epic Games will unleash the “Gears of War 2: All Fronts Collection,” a value-packed compilation that combines all previous “Gears of War 2” Game Add-ons with brand new multiplayer and campaign content. Available only at retail, the new collection invades store shelves worldwide on July 28 for $19.99/£14.99/€19.99.
Included in the “Gears of War 2: All Fronts Collection” is the “Gears of War 2: Dark Corners” Game Add-on, which features seven new multiplayer maps and a deleted campaign chapter titled “Road to Ruin.” In “Road to Ruin,” Marcus and Dom return to the Locust Hollow in a scene that can be played two ways, guns blazing or in all-new stealth mode.
The seven new multiplayer maps in the “Gears of War 2: Dark Corners” Game Add-on are:
- Allfathers Garden: Honor the sacred grounds of the Coalition founders in this explosive map, where powerful weapons catalyze fast and furious action at this COG landmark.
- Memorial: Set near the Eternal Flame, which pays tribute to the fallen soldiers on the battlefield, a hard-fought battle ensues at the Tomb of Unknowns. Putting their flank formation and evasive skills to the test, players will fight to control the Boomshot.
- Sanctuary: Once a peaceful ground for reflection and remembrance, all that remains of the Sanctuary is the chill of death. Feast your eyes on the arsenal of weapons available as you make your way through the tight paths and blind corners of the Locust-damaged temple corridors.
- War Machine: In the abandoned train station that once served as a hub for travel, players will need to master the Longshot, Mulcher and Boomshot weapons to advance the fight while evading fire from the platforms above.
- Highway: Take the fight deep into the Locust Hollow in the complex passages of this underground highway system brimming with enemy vermin. Stick together, separate the enemy and have an exit strategy ready or it’ll be a one-way trip.
- Way Station: Sitting in limbo between death and “processing” are Locust way stations filled with fallen COG soldiers. Tread lightly and practice patience as it’s better to sacrifice firepower for stealth while navigating this minefield of hidden grenades.
- Nowhere: Set in the middle of what was once a destination for weary desert travellers, the land is now barren and devoid of life. Pick off your enemies with the Longshot sniper rifle and make your way to the stairwell with a well-fortified team during this intense firefight.
In addition to the new content, the “Gears of War 2: All Fronts Collection” also contains every “Gears of War 2” Game Add-on released to date, including the classic “Flashback” Map Pack, volatile “Combustible” Map Pack and the winter-themed “Snowblind” Map Pack. Also included is an introduction to “Road to Ruin” from Epic Games design director Cliff Bleszinski, along with a custom Xbox LIVE theme, collectible “Gears of War 2” poster and a strategy guide. Containing over 3,600 Microsoft Points worth of content, the “Gears of War 2: All Fronts Collection” is an incredible value at $19.99.
Already enjoying the previously released “Gears of War 2” collection of map packs? Available day-and-date with “Gears of War 2: All Fronts Collection” via download from Xbox LIVE Marketplace, the “Dark Corners” Game Add-on will be available separately for 1,600 MS Points.
“Gears of War 2” is available exclusively on Xbox 360 and is rated “M” for Mature by the ESRB and PEGI 16+. “Gears of War 2: All Fronts Collection” and “Gears of War 2: Dark Corners” will be available in LIVE-enabled regions worldwide, where “Gears of War 2” is available. any other gears fans who bought the other content feel like they're being gypped? and that doesn't even include the bonuses (poster, video, theme). might as well go out and get the retail package. if the existing add-ons come as keys, you could at least give/sell them to someone else.
that said, i will be reluctantly buying it cuz i can't resist more gears content (i'm sure that's what they're counting on).
/me goes to a dark corner and cries petting his golden lancer
Things are like that and will always be.
Wow, I didn't realize the previous stuff was included too!
Looks like my Gear #1 will soon have a brother!!! I may have to wait for the price to go down a bit, but very, VERY nice.
If only I could get someone to play Gears 1 co-op with me
seriously though, they could at least shave a bit off the price so their loyal fans don't feel shafted. i mean we've spent $ on 3 map packs already and now people who haven't can get 4 map packs for the price that we're getting 1. PLUS the bonus material.
but whatever, i'm still excited about it. should help hold my wife and i over till haloODST and borderlands
i would like to see a blood stained weapon skins added instead of gold weps
I don't get the concept of "loyalty" meaning that you have to buy DLC as soon as it is available, and I'm not sure how waiting for a better deal somehow makes me any less of a fan.
I look at it this way, the early adopters that bought the Gears 2 DLC didn't pay ten bucks (twice) for the maps themselves, they paid that money to be able to play the maps however much earlier than those of us who were waiting for the eventual re-packaging to occur.
Halo 3: ODST is doing pretty much the same thing.
I take it, then, that you've never bought a game on its release date?
Movies, music, books, and games -- heck, even clothes, shoes, and cars, too -- are all the same: get it right away at a premium price, or later at a discount...after the hype is gone.
Maybe you didn't mean to sound so condescending, but don't sneer at the day-one buyers too much. DLC can keep a company afloat, and these days that's a good move on their part. If you gripe about companies who keep pushing extra content -- and the people who buy it -- then it comes off as bitter, at least to me.
And there's really nothing to be bitter about. Either you buy, or you don't. It's up to you to decide when it's worth buying. I don't think you're any less of a fan, and neither does Epic Games...it's the fanboys with their Mommies' credit cards that use the "you're less of a fan" argument to justify themselves when Epic re-releases the maps cheaper.
I'm not quite sure how I sounded condescending as I was explaining the reason why "I" specifically didn't buy map packs. I didn't say anything about other day-one purchases or the people that do buy them especially considering that I buy most of my games when they first come out.
I have no problem at all with companies pushing DLC. The more they push the better because I usually end up with a good deal by waiting for the re-pack. Lots of people have to have it right when its released and that's a-ok for them, but not for me. Its nothing bitter, its just business.
Your second paragraph three posts up led me to believe that you were being defensive about the "loyalty" issue.
My favorite thing is when people say the same sorts of things about those that don't buy the Halo 3 maps and they say "all those people" are too cheap or aren't loyal enough. Yeah, people like me that are so cheap and un-loyal with their Halo 3 controllers, and action figures, and Warthog license plate frames, shirts, pins, books, and etc.
Sweeping generalizations FTL!
however, i think said fanboys are NOT loyal especially if they're using someone else's hard earned cash to buy games and content. fanboys just annoy me. obsession is not loyalty.
I like that. I may have to quote it in the future.
