No longer will you be tethered by a mere four campaigns in Left 4 Dead.  After getting the beta mod tools in authors hands a few months ago, Valve is ready to unleash custom campaign support for the PC version of the game.

These new campaigns will be packaged in an easy to use single file and will support in the in game match making.  That means it'll be incredibly easy to meet up with three other folks who want to play the super rare Hannah Montana campaign.

In similar news the aforementioned mod tools are will no longer be in beta form, with plenty of bug fixes for aspiring map makers.

Why the PC L4D community are up in arms about content updates when they've got all the user generated stuff to look forward I don't know?

Some cool levels about too.

*sigh* this just reminds me how much bungie spoils us and nobody else has come close on a console.

Imagine how much fun it would be to have a Level editor/designer for L4D/2?

Farcry 2 did it... Halo 3 did it... what's stopping the devs? I imagine half the problem is M$ and their strict rules on live.

I'd probably spend quite a lot of time making a L4D campaign actually.

yeah.. even if they just allowed you to gut the existing campaign maps, re-route the flow and place fences vehicles, small buildings and such. the main structures would probably have to stay the same. maybe allow you to blast holes through walls and floors to change things up.

i've never played farcry 2... i wasn't aware it had an editor. is it as nice as forge in halo 3?

From the quick go I had of it (and some of the user created levels) it is more complex than forge, and has considerable more features etc... meaning more epic maps and levels can be made. Some one correct me if I wrong, but I think the editor is a ported version of what they actually used to create the levels?

I've always said that modding is the only thing console gaming is missing over PC gaming - but PC vs Console is a debate for another time.

Have you guys even take a look at Hammer? It is infinitely more complex than the editors that are given to console players.

Needless to say I am totally psyched about these updates.

Oh man zonf I remember the editor for far cry instincts on the xbox, I would spend hours designing maps to play one, I had one cool one with an island surrounding an island complete with hang gliders and boats.

I really would like to see some editor for the 360 L4D or at the very least some user generated content .

It would even be something if we could use a map editor on a PC and upload to 360.

UGC is a great way to keep sales of a game up over long periods.

Oh, my goodness, the Far Cry 2 map editor is great! Unfortunately, there's no way to filter out the user-created maps when searching games, so 90% of the time when you're joining a game, you have to download the map first.

Editors like Forge on consoles will only be good when players are not banned from user-generated content without any, explanation or appeal.

I will not buy a game, I rented and downloaded game videos and map rules. I got banned from Halo's Forge even for my campaign videos and MS game support for that never did a thing for it. They kept telling me I needed Xbox Live Gold to play MP games and other BS.

I never did anything or saw anything outside of game matches. If a publisher/developer is willing to do User Content, THEY NEED THE RIGHT SUPPORT!

I'm going to stop now, cause I'm only going to get more upset.

You would think they would patch the USB port stuff.. Its just silly to have to unplug stuff that you usually just leave plugged
Yeah but I think it would still be cool!
Thanks for clearing that up! I probably won't buy it though.
I recently picked up a 360 after nearly five years of Warcraft, so... well, I have some catching up to do. My current game libra
