There were some rumors yesterday as the cover of the latest GamePro revealed what everyone believed was the world exclusive announcement of Gears of War 2. As you know, the first Gears of War was one of finest examples of a cooperative experience in a game in quite some time. Naturally we are pretty excited here at Co-Optimus to learn about its sequel. Alas though, all is not well. Epic Games vice-president Mark Rein has put the rumor to bed saying this:
It is complete nonsense. We have not announced a sequel to Gears of War to Gamepro or anyone else for that matter.
-Mark Rein
So there you have it. And while there's no doubt that a Gears sequel is coming, there's nothing official. I expect we'll see an announcement or two at the Game Developer's Conference in a few weeks. Gears of War 2 being one of them.
There had been remarks over at Kotaku about this, many of the people in the comments were saying it was going to be speculation. Really it was a sad sad attempt for GamePro to get readers over GI this month.
Gamepro has sucked for so many years now. It's a shame because at one point that mag wasn't half bad.I think print media in general is struggling right now. Gamepro will probably be the first vid mag to die.
Yeah maybe Gamepro was just speculating, but we all know that Gears 2 is coming...
Mark my words, GDC 08 is the place to be, I wouldn't be surprised if we saw more than just the sequel (prequel?) to Gears of War.

Everyone knows it's coming. Does it really matter that it hasn't officially been announced yet?
