Xbox 360 Dashboard Update is Live

Nicholas "bapenguin" Puleo August 11th, 2009 at 7:58 AM

The new Xbox 360 dashboard is live this morning for all to download.  You'll be prompted for a system update once you boot your Xbox 360 and connect to Xbox Live.

The update will get you a brand new party system in Netflix, Avatar items and unlockables, games on demand, a full rating system for all content, and enhanced user interface features like a new achievement browser and sortable friends lists.  You may even see some performance improvements.  You can find out the entire change log of updates on Xbox.com.

Which feature is your favorite feature of the update?  What feature would you like to see in future updates?

the party system still needs a lot of work IMO... and we also need grouping in the contact list (like IM clients) as well as social groups (like facebook).

What's this? Co-Optimus on Google News? Nice.

Did they fix it so that if I sign in to Live from the dashboard with my button-password, that it doesn't bring up the blade thing and make me punch it in again?

Hope they fix the Party system because it randomly kicks people out of the party forcing everyone to reconnect in the middle of the game.

The update should auto reconnect on kicks for the party. I can't confirm it yet even though I was in the beta - everyone needs to be on the update first. I'll be curious to hear feedback as the week goes on.

i've had it attempt to auto-reconnect but it never worked because my brother was actually signing off to get updates or something.

Same here. I'll try and see if I can get one of my friends online that lags everyone out every 5 minutes. Then I can test the reconnect system.
Does anyone else feel the game rating system is worthless? Everyone gives every game 5 stars.

I dont use Netflixs so that update is no use to me, the avtar items is ok- I buy the PS3 items for my avtar so its cool, The Down Load games system I am seriously looking foward too.

The kid just downloaded it, can't wait to check it out later today.

@Hbocidal, that's one of the problems with user reviews in general. You have a tendency for people to either give 1 or 5 stars, a completely binary response.

HobocidalManiac at 05:21 AM on 8.11.2009

That's why I've been giving 4 stars. I don't think I own a 5 star game.

i think the ratings will balance out in coming weeks. right now everyone's rating games they may have had for some time. they'll only bother visiting the game's section on xbla if they really love it or really hate it. once people get used to it they'll go and rate as a matter of course shortly after they've bought the game. in theory.

Anyone get any unlockables for their avatars yet? I assumed it was going to be achievement based, but I haven't got anything with my 22k gamerscore.

I've only given out two 5 star ratings so far, one for BioShock and the other for Mass Effect.

The only game that has an unlockable is Splosion Man. Not sure what you need to do in it to unlock it though.

HobocidalManiac at 11:07 AM on 8.11.2009

I think completing it in single player unlocks everything, but I'm only 2/3 through so I don't know for sure.

Was hoping to join people for Borderlands on Friday, but since everyone seemed to have their own plans I played a no co-op Mass

Thought I throw this question on here for different opinions, and if it was discussed already, then what's been your opinion lat
I'm tempted to get Halo 3: ODST and perhaps Halo 3 so I don't have to rent them any more.Hmmm choices....
