Left 4 Dead DLC Should have been out Before E3

It's a case of timing is everything.  If only the Left 4 Dead DLC was announced and released before E3 this year, the Left 4 Dead 2 announcement wouldn't have been met with such resistance, at least, that's what Valve thinks.

"I think in this case we just didn't message correctly, we didn't make it clear that Left 4 Dead was still going to be updated. We just didn't think to mention it, we were focusing on other stuff."

This from Valve's Chet Faliszek.  Forgetting to mention it is one thing, but failing to release is another.

"We, internally, always knew we were going to do cool new stuff, so we didn't say anything about the original game.  Of course we also intended to get the Crash Course DLC for L4D out before E3, but some things held us up."

Ooops.   He goes on to say that the decision to at least not announce the DLC first did hurt them, but otherwise their decisions were right.  I'm sure Valve won't be making that mistake again.

I think no matter when they released the content, announcing a sequel so soon would have had the same effect.

I agree with Zonf. If they first said, "Hey there's going to be a new campaign for L4D! It's coming soon."

"Oh, also, there's going to be a game with new characters, new campaigns, improved AI Director, new special zombies, new weapons, melee weapons and it's all coming this year!"

I would have had the same reaction as before.

Yeah, I also felt that this sequel is coming too soon... But I'll be buying that and the new campaign DLC (560 MS points ?) for the first game anyways.

I look at it this way... L4D1 is a great game, bar none! But after beating all campaigns on expert easily, and acquiring all 58 achievements, it can also easily be said that it has it's faults!

And while sure, new DLC (i.e. campaigns, etc) will add a bit of extra flavor to the game, it doesn't change the core gameplay; of which I feel definitely needs an upgrade... Valve has felt the same way, and thus we have L4D2!

L4D was the game my wife and I played religiously every night. But even after downloading new DLC campaigns, we have become bored, and eagerly await L4D2! Bring on the chainsaw!

Don't get me wrong, I am looking forward to L4D2 now. I actually think the reaction would have been worse if Valve had released the content before E3. It would bring into question the purpose of a sequel at all!
