Rumor: Modern Warfare 2 Surprises in Store, Co-Op Brought Up

Jim "txshurricane" McLaughlin September 23rd, 2009 at 5:20 PM

We're pretty sure that this quote is still valid, but just in case: more co-op is more goodness!

Put this one in your back pocket...it's thin. Several outlets are quoting Infinity Ward Community Manager Robert Bowling from yesterday's Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 event, and they're running wild with the possibilities. So far, the most plausible theories have been in regards to the single-player campaign story; Infinity Ward has a reputation for outdoing themselves with incredible setpieces, cutscenes, and all-around production value.

However, one of our favorite growing gaming blogs, Loot Ninja, has its own theory: co-op in the main campaign. While we're not necessarily in agreement with that prediction, we're not opposed to what's being suggested! With November 10th creeping up behind a slew of October games, we may not get the full details until we have Modern Warfare 2 in our hands...but just in case, we'll keep our ears open for rumor control info.

with all the drama, why would they keep this secret? maybe they had it on the back burner and wound up with extra time to work on it? idk... i'll believe it when i see it.

Yeah, Smurph, I don't believe it, either. But it's still cool to see someone else pining for it.

I'm glad people are taking this guess with a pinch of salt.

I just have to wonder what it could be. I'm think it may be leveling up like the MP sections of CoDMW had for single-player. But i cou;d be wrong.

I really don't think it's co-op campaign. At least not this close to release.

Infinity ward, or rather robert bowling, has flat out denied coop in the campaign. I don't think they would intentionally be misleading, they would just omit information.

They didn't create the rumor. Check out Joystiq or Destructoid for the rumor origins.

by intentionally misleading, I was referring to the denying coop in campaign. Their style is to not say something, rather than lie.

Does anyone know if Spec Ops will be Split Screen Co-Op, or just online? I really want to play it with the significant other, and the lack of campaign co-op is a bummer.

It will definitely be splitscreen. IW has said that they prefer the two-buddies-on-a-couch scenario.

I never talk when I play online on COD. No one really says anything worth listening to, or no one talks whatsoever.
