Left 4 Dead 2's Marketing Budget 2.5x the Original

When the original Left 4 Dead launched with a marketing budget of 10 million dollars, we were quite impressed. That's chump change compared to the Benjamins being thrown behind Left 4 Dead 2, something to the tune of 25 million dollars.
Even though the game has set a record for the most preorders of any game in Valve history, the company feels it can do better.
“Based on the strength of pre-orders, Left 4 Dead 2 will be the fastest-selling product in Valve’s history,” said Gabe Newell, president of Valve. “Left 4 Dead 2 has consistently run at 300% of Left 4 Dead’s numbers.”
Despite the controversy when the game was announced, these numbers indicated the game is going to do just fine for Valve. With melee weapons, the AI Director 2.0, five campaigns, four game modes, and plenty of new enemies - Left 4 Dead 2 is going to be another juggernaut this crowded fall gaming season.
I think they have a pretty good niche that their sales will be very good.
definitely... but a lot of people are waiting or not getting it because its too soon in their opinion. just sayin'
let them wait less of the nonsense when we play online versus.
You would not believe the people who just outright team kill to become the infected.
As nice as that would be, that would never happen. Games cost so much to make nowadays, and when you add in the marketing cost that they've thrown here, the $60/$50 is pretty much in place until they can re-coup everything.
Of course, since they've already got three times as many pre-orders as the original game, I wouldn't be surprised to see some sort of price cut by Christmas. Sounds like they're gonna get they're money back pretty quickly.
