Co-Op Rules September NPD Software Sales

We already knew that Halo 3: ODST has sold like gangbusters, and now we have further proof that the four player co-op title ruled the month of September by a long shot thanks to the latest NPD numbers.  While the game has sold over 2 million copies world-wide, in North America alone ODST sold 1.5 million copies

The other interesting tid bit of information was that The Beatles: Rock Band outsold Guitar Hero 5, with only the 360 version of GH5 barely cracking the top 10.  All told seven of the top ten in terms of software sales for September were games that supported co-op.  They say you want a revolution...

September 2009 Software Sales

  1. Halo 3: ODST (360) -- 1,520,000
  2. Wii Sports Resort (Wii) -- 442,900
  3. Madden NFL 10 (360) -- 289,600
  4. Mario & Luigi: Bowser's Inside Story (DS) -- 258,100
  5. The Beatles: Rock Band (360) -- 254,000
  6. Madden NFL 10 (PS3) -- 246,500
  7. Marvel Ultimate Alliance 2 (360) -- 236,000
  8. Batman: Arkham Asylum (PS3) -- 212,500
  9. Guitar Hero 5 (360) -- 210,800
  10. The Beatles Rock Band (Wii) -- 208,600

And if hardware is your thing, you can see the PlayStation 3 getting a nice bump in sales thanks to the price cut and Slim.  Uncharted 2 for everyone!

I guess its safe to say that a game that supports a co-op has a better future than those that doesnt...
