Co-Optimus Redesign Launched - Feedback Contest!

As you can probably see, things are a bit different around here (if not hit control-f5). We've been hard at work behind the scenes to bring you a cleaner more easier to use Co-Optimus.com. More changes are on the way in terms of functionality - so sit tight!
In the meantime we'd like to know what you think! Tell us the good or the bad as a comment to this post. Be sure to let us know of any problems you see. We'll be giving away 1600 MS Points to one lucky poster, and another will win a co-op game of their choice!

I like the new navigation bar across the top instead of a box at the side. Still too much room for the adds and stuff on the right side, leaving less room than I would like for the articles. crambosho at 09:31 PM on 6.29.2008
Personally, I think that the site color and theme gives more a vibe towards the audience that is directed towards games. For some reason with the white background, it just seemed like an ordinary site, but the darkish background sure does put a different atmosphere in my eyes. I'll wait until you guys go ahead and alter the functionality of your site then I'll repost!
Great job overall with the site guys, keep up the hard work.

I would like to start with the caveat that I don't 100% remember the old site since I have only been visiting for a few weeks. My first impression was when I loaded up the website I immediately noticed that it was a re-design. Also with the familiar looking logo in the upper right hand corner I was certain that I hadn't mistyped the url. In terms of pure effectiveness of still knowing its the same website I would say you did an excellent job.I personally like the use of halftone dots in the header picture, it was done tastefully and remains functional while having the added benefit of having more texture.
The color scheme not only looks nice but is also functional. You guys struck a good balance between aesthetics and functionality.
The header also lets me know visually that this is a gaming site, and the use of 1 and 2 on the robots as well as the handing controller is excellent. You also get extra points for having "your prime source for co-op gaming" under the website name, this lets a first time visitor know within moments what the website is about.
My only criticism would be that the main page may be a bit too busy for my tastes as I am mainly interested in the news. I know that you guys have a lot of neat features and are interested in letting your readers know about them, however some newer visitors may find it a little overwhelming at first (albeit useful when they get more interested in the website).
As far as content I couldn't be more pleased. My gaming currently is almost exclusively co-op and I love reading about the newest titles. Keep up the good work.
Just noticed this one, you may want to give a comment poster the ability to pre-view their comment before posting since the comment box is a little small for longer comments.

I quite like the revamp. The new colour is snazzy.Needs more Billy though

Don't worry, we've got some plans for ol' Billy.johnnyway at 12:12 AM on 6.30.2008
Is it just me or are the fonts on the home page for the stories way too big? When I first landed on the home page I knew it was different but I thought that my wife had change some settings on me. I checked some other websites and all font sizes seem normal elsewhere. Also, I have a 19 inch monitor and am running 1024 by 768 but for some reason the two columns on the home page do not fit side by side. The result at least here is that it looks like a large amount of empty white space on the right of the screen then if I scroll all the way to the end of the left column, the right one begins. Looks like they overlap eachother by about a quarter inch.
I do like the new look though, don't get me wrong. A lot of sites could care less about appearance as long as the content is there but you manage to do both so kudos for that and keep up the good work.

Love the new look. However, it took me a bit to find where to login (the dark navy made it invisible to my eye I suppose), and then at said login screen, Firefox decided to put half the page scrolled off to the right (including the Username and Password boxes). Otherwise it's great so far! Also just for user experience sake, the site looks fine to me. I'm on a 22" Samsung Widescreen at 1680x1050.
Edit: It also appears the "view comment" directly or editing the comment slices the page in two (CSS/frame headers/footers on the left, page content on the right, scrolled off) in Firefox 2.
Mrxknown_JG at 03:01 AM on 6.30.2008
The look is fantastic. I love the popular stories and the new columns.I posted this in the Feedback thread only because I went to the forums first (replying to a thread), then while reading the news I saw this.
Anyway, johnnyway made a similar observation. While viewing the forums, the forums, threads and everything is to the right (off screen). Seems the page is extended out to the right like a Landscape printout.
I have to scroll right almost the full size of a normal page.
bapenguin at 08:01 AM on 6.30.2008
Could you take a screenshot of that?
bapenguin at 08:03 AM on 6.30.2008
Are you using IE6 by any chance?
We did increase the font size a bit on the front page, it's probably about 15% larger than before.
Brainp0wa at 08:38 AM on 6.30.2008
I really like the new look of the site but I would like to see the tags used a bit differently. I see "360" and "xbox 360" and "xbla" and all give different results. Can the "360" and "xbox 360" tags be combined into one and then add it to all the items that are already tagged "xbla" so people can get all the news as it relates to the entire 360 platform in one place? The searchable database is still the best one on the net! btw, is UT3 for the 360 on its way into the database?
johnnyway at 09:11 AM on 6.30.2008
I am using IE6. I have some other somewhat older stuff that hasn't been upgraded for use on IE7 yet.

Hi! First I'd like to say how awesome this site is! I've been visiting for some time now as my wife and I like to play games together but couldn't always agree what would be fun for the two of us. I googled and landed on this site...what a Godsend! Anyway, I like the new layout but there are some issues. Someone else already mentioned this, but the forum pages are laid out left to right. I've taken several screenshots to illustrate this. I have a 22" monitor running 1650 x 1080. I'm using Mozilla 2.0.0.14.
Also, when I first loaded the new layout, all the titles on the home page were jumbled. Kind of when several words are all on top of each other. I was going to take a screenshot of that but it fixed itself after 4-5 reloads.
That's all I've caught so far. I think it looks great!
bapenguin at 10:35 AM on 6.30.2008
Thanks a bunch, I'm trying to figure out exactly what is causing that. I still haven't been able to reproduce it.
Any chance it's fixed?
pheriannath at 11:05 AM on 6.30.2008
Squish, I checked the forums out in Firefox 2.0.0.14 (Windows) and they appear to be working properly. If the problem persists, try disabling any addons and see if that fixes anything. Thanks for the help!
Squish at 11:30 AM on 6.30.2008
Now it's working fine...not sure what the problem could have been. The jumbled text hasn't come back either. Oh well, now the site looks even better! xtnx reaper at 11:39 AM on 6.30.2008
hi im a new to co-optimus but so far i love the web site and i think thats is great what you guys are doin so far with co-op games not many people know how much fun it can be playing that way but keep it up and this web site is gonna be very popular around im telling my friends about it...thanks Garand at 11:57 AM on 6.30.2008
Love the new design. Keep up the good work. pheriannath at 12:04 PM on 6.30.2008
Glad to hear it's working.Over the next few days/weeks we'll be poring over the backend and frontend code to make sure everything's cleaned up.
WorldMaker at 12:56 PM on 6.30.2008
The new graphics are cute.I dislike fixed layouts and much prefer when a layout better adapts to my browser space (or lack thereof, depending), so that's still a problem for me, but I've become something of a layout snob.
milpool at 01:33 PM on 6.30.2008
It may have been the way I posted my above comment but it doesn't seem to have any line breaks in it. I didn't code in the line breaks only hit return a few times when I was typing. I don't think this would effect most posts but felt it was worth mentioning.Everything looks fine to me in Firefox 3.
GHETTO.CHiLD at 01:39 PM on 6.30.2008
The login is a little funky, it shouldn't be dumping me in the forums since I want to post. Also the background is too dark. I think the other background with this template would look great and make the site pop. Other than that very nice redesign. RaptorJedi at 10:21 PM on 6.30.2008
I like the new look. I don't entirely remember the old site all that well (I fail at remembering things). No issues so far though, but I'll keep an eye out. brokengod at 10:53 PM on 6.30.2008
new design looks good, however I am seeing one issue. When not logged in, the right hand column appears *below* the main column, rather than to the right. Logging in fixes it.
This is in Firefox 2.0.0.14.
Leon at 07:56 AM on 7.1.2008
I am using Firefox 2.0.0.14 and did not see any problems. I also tried Firefox 3 on my brother's Windows Vista laptop and there were no problems. However, when I tried to add this comment I had to login again.
I really like the new design.
justabaldguy at 07:59 AM on 7.1.2008
The new changes are fine so far. I haven't noticed a whole lot yet. One thing is when I hit "Mark all topics read" it no longer makes the links look like I've clicked them. It removes the little arrow by the topic, but it doesn't really look like I've read them. I seem to recall the other version (before the update) changed the threads to the "read" color. Hard to explain, but that's the only issue I've found thus far.I like the user control panel box. I'd really like to see my avatar up there too.
The Hedon at 08:59 PM on 7.2.2008
I agree about the Mark Read feature. I have no power as a MOD to fix it, though I wish I could. Normally it would change the color to black in some forums. I believe that in this forum it changed it from a BOLD to nonBOLD?
Can we get that hooked up with a fix?
justabaldguy at 08:01 AM on 7.3.2008
That part just started happening to me too. Some thread titles are bold, some aren't. Odd... Related Articles
