Left 4 Dead 2 Preorders Quadruple The Original

It appears the boycott isn't really working at all!  Preorder sales for Left 4 Dead 2 are doing quite well, according to CVG's interview with Valve's Chet Faliszek.  How well?  Try four times the level of the original Left 4 Dead.  After playing through the demo, I can easily see why; the game looks to be one of the year's best.

Maybe you are on the fence about the game, and can't decide whether to preorder?  You might want to check out this video at G4TV.  It's a twelve minute walkthrough of the new "realism" difficulty level.  There's quite a lot of interesting information, including a few tidbits about the AI Director, which controls in-game events.  The new and improved Director will monitor how well players are progressing, and alter the environment to compensate.  For example, if a group of players is working well together, the amount of rainfall might increase to make shooting more difficult.  A nice touch, for sure, and we can't wait to get our hands on Left 4 Dead 2 later this month.

I played through the demo (on pc) and didn't come away feeling it was that much different from the 1st game. It almost felt like it could have another l4d level. But I guess it doesn't really delve deeply into what the sequel is bringing to the game.

Glad to hear the game is already selling pretty well, despite not being out yet! My only concern is still the AI. . . Really hoping that gets fixed up by release.

At least the worry about a "split community" that the boycott (And myself) were concerned about isn't as bad as it seems. The two games are obviously going to have different people playing, but. . . At least it's good to know the new game is going to have a larger community right off the bat, and hopefully one that will stay around.

I can tell you this will be my most played game just like the first was.

Looking forward to the new versus as well as Scavenge modes.
