Next Assassin's Creed to include Co-op?

News
Twitter facebook googlebuzz

As much as I enjoyed undertaking 4 player co-op assassinations in Tenchu Z, it had more flaws than a Dubai super skyscraper.  Assassin's Creed 2 is the current leader in the silent, but deadly, genre of the stealth 'em up, but it was a solidly solo experience.  Great news; latest rumors suggest that a new game in the franchise (let us call it Assassin's Creed 3) will have a co-op mode.

Over at Vg247 they report news of a recent Ubisoft's Q3 investor call about the Assassin's Creed franchise where they mention:

"The general rule for new releases is that each will contain cooperative multiplayer."

What this means is yet unknown; a full co-op campaign, or an additional co-op mode?  The third game in the series will continue with the story of Ezio as he moves against Rome.  Let's hope that the new game will allow two or more assassins to take on the Templars, because you know what they say; it is better to take four wrist mounted daggers into a fight, than it is to take two wrist mounted daggers into a fight!

Yeah full co-op would be cool - it's the logical next step!

It can be done. Splinter Cell showed us how stealth games can work in co-op.

Now the logical step is a full co-op campaign, with a lot of co-op attacks. That will be marvelous to AC franchise.

I hope this won't be like "Kill 20 guards with your partner without getting noticed on different stages".

Oh, and if it has Co-op, it should have ALL forms of playability (like System Link/LAN and SplitScreen)

For me, first and foremost it should have online co-op.

Splinter Cell Chaos Theory had an excellent co-op stealth mode. It can be done! Here's hoping it's done well...

And I'd love to see splitscreen on the console versions, but I'm not holding my breath.

I don't know if I would be a fan of online co-op. I don't think that I like the idea of my cover remaining unseen based on another player to keep from blowing the mission. I would however love to play couch co-op.

Would you not have the same problem in couch co-op as in online co-op....I have a great time with my friends playing online co-op and i like the fact that i don't have to have a split screen.... Plus i agree that couch co-op would be great as well.

Co-op in Assassin's Creed would actually make me, y'know, care about the game a little. That is if it actually becomes a bit more replayable and, well, fun of course.

Deriaz the second game was fun to play, it had way more variety and all. You should try it out for 1-2 hours, you'll see

I watched a few gameplay videos when the game came out. Most people, when in combat, just waited (yet again) to counter-spam and win the fights with ease. There's a problem when that's the most efficient way to fight, is to wait. Not much of a change there from the first game. There was a shop thing I saw, too, but most people talking about the game said that you can get some of the best stuff for free -- whether that's true or not, I dunno, but it made me laugh at the idea of a shop if it is true.

The first game was dreadfully slow, to the point where I never finished it because it was that bad. Even if the sequel were much more refined, I don't know that I could stand playing it; it doesn't seem very replayable, nor very fun. There's no hook or anything in the story to get me interested either.

Now if I could play it with a friend? Sure, maybe I would play. I would love to stand back to back with a friend in a fight. . . Counter-spamming, of course, since that seems to be the only way to win still. Running over rooftops side by side, planning distractions with the other person, etc.. But as a single player experience, Assassin's Creed just doesn't deliver at all for me.

Co-op would make it show up on my radar the first AC just left this sour boring taste in my mouth.
