Lara Croft Guarded By Microsoft's Four Week Exclusivity

News
Twitter facebook googlebuzz

Dear PSN and Steam, We'll be there shortly! Love, Lara and Totec.

It looks like the power of the Summer of Arcade promo will be holding Lara Croft and the Guardian of Light hostage for a while. Once Lara Croft launches for the Summer of Arcade on the XBLA, the title will not be seen on the PSN or Steam for at least four weeks.

Developer Crystal Dynamics has a good reason for agreeing to giving Microsoft the exclusive, and we hope it wont be too much longer before Playstation Network and Steam users get their co-op Croft on.

The agreement with Microsoft is, in order to participate in their hugely successful Summer of Arcade promotion, there is a window of exclusivity. That window of exclusivity is a set four weeks.

Better late than never. At least it's not an all-out XBLA exclusive forever, right?

What do you think the actual benefit is to being in the 'Summer of Arcade' line-up? Will they get free advertising on the main XBLA screen or something?

I don't think the 4 week exclusivity will really matter because people already know which console they are going to get it on. I'm going to try the trial version on XBLA and then if I like it I will buy it on PSN.

The Summer of Arcade is a lot of things: free advertising, and the benefit of "if you buy all of the titles, you get 1200 ($15) of Microsoft points back. Sales for Summer of Arcade deals are up over all others on the arcade, and it is incredibly beneficial for a company/game to be on that list.
