Sengoku Basara: Samurai Heroes Launches Today

Sengoku Basara: Samurai Heroes comes out for the PlayStation 3 and the Wii today.  Sengoku Basara: Samurai Heroes adds some Japanese flavor to a Dynasty Warriors-style of game play.  The game supports two player local co-op.  Not to be confused with Koei's Samurai Warrior's titles, this is the third installment of the Sengoku Basara series, which has also been developed into a magna and anime.  You may know it as Devil Kings if you're from the States.

The game is being produced by Capcom's Hiroyuki Kobayashi, the same man behind Devil May Cry 4.   The game will feature over fifteen playable characters and takes place in feudal Japan.  The story leads up to the Battle of Sekigahara, which my sources tell me is also known as the Battle of the Sundered Realm, which is exactly one million times cooler sounding than The Romance of the Three Kingdoms.

Fight your way through hundreds of enemies across many exciting battlefields using cool combos and over-the-top special moves until all heroes have gathered at the decisive battle of Sekigahara

Featuring more than 15 unique playable samurai warrior characters each with their own unique battle styles

Upgradeable weapon types including swords, spear, bow, iron ball, gun, and fists, allow players to extend or add special abilities

Dramatic “Heroes' Story” mode changes history based on players decisions as the story progresses

Team up with a friend in offline co-op play to crush opponents.

Now you may think this sounds like a Dynasty Warriors game, but you would be wrong.   The Dynasty Warriors series takes place in China, circa 269 A.D.  Those games are made by Koei.  The Sengoku Basara series takes place in Japan, around the 16th century, and made by Capcom.  If you can't tell the difference, then you are probably bad at history as well as not from Japan or China.

Judging from the epileptic-tastic trailer, this game follows the same formula that has been around since the original Dynasty Warriors released on the original PlayStation in 1997.  A hero shows up, and due to inverse ninja law, is able to defeat massive amounts of enemies single-handedly, or in this case, local co-op-edly.  If you are unfamiliar with inverse ninja theory then I say to you: "Welcome to the Wordl of Tomorrow!  There's lots more stupid stuff just around the corner."  These games are usually a ton of fun, if a bit repetitive.

Sengoku Basara: Samurai Heroes will be available on the PS3 and Nintendo Wii today, October 12th, and has a MSRP of $39.99.  Vist the Samurai Heroes site for a huge amount of screens.

What do you prefer, Sengoku Basara or Dynasty Warriors
