Left 4 Dead Preorder Sale - $39.99 on PC and $53.99 on 360

Nicholas "bapenguin" Puleo September 09th, 2008 at 10:52 AM

It was voted our most anticipated co-op title for the rest of the year, so it's totally awesome news that Amazon is running a Left 4 Dead pre-order promotion.

The Xbox 360 version of the game which supports 4 player online co-op as well as 2 player split screen co-op is available for pre-order for $53.99.

The PC version of the game which supports 4 player online co-op is available for pre-order for only $39.99!

You definitely don't want to miss out on this one folks.  Zombies...it's got ZOMBIES!

I really need to figure out which version I want to get. I want the PC version, but a lot of my friends will have the 360 version.

Dare I purchase both?

I heard a great comment the other day. Purchase both. The PC version will most likely have the longest legs and the largest community over time. The 360 version will have a large audience for the first couple of months...then you can just trade it in for close to full value.

Me? I'll be getting the PC version.

Interesting thing about Amazon doing that sale. I seem to recall reading that they are moving to a special where for an extra $5 or so, they'll have the game at your house on the day its out in stores. I think they're trying to compete with stores like Best Buy, Game Stop, Wal-Mart, etc where you can preorder a game and get it that day. So, that said, maybe this sale is just to get us to buy it early, then pay them back the difference to get it to our house on time... I was unable to find this info on Amazon.com (just a cursory glance), but I read it on Joystiq.com I think.

If you sign up for their Amazon Prime service ($79 a year) you get that for free. Prime is totally worth it for me with just the unlimited 2 day shipping. This was icing on the cake.

if I plan on getting this, it will have to be on trade in credit. Trying to minimize our budget and pay off some CC's.

I'm in the same boat, Shazoo, especially after my wife took two months maternity leave. For me, "new game" means either a really good sale, or trade-in credit.

I've got a $20 gift card from Game Crazy from last November when I purchased my 360. I've held that little guy all this time, knowing I'd need a new game in the fall. I just about never buy new games. I rarely buy any games right now, just renting through Game Fly, but other than that funds are just too tight here too!

The PC version of Left 4 Dead is now being listed at $36.99 on Amazon. I'm personally going with this version as I expect the community to have more staying power than on 360.

it looks to be as if they're expecting less than stellar sales on the PC version. Besides WoW, PC gaming is slowly dying(sp? had a brain fart, is it dieing?). It's a shame, because that's where most of our gamer roots are from. I know 95% of these boards probably started off with games such as DOOM, civilization, and other pc classics. (Carmageddon ftw!)

I think it has more to do with the fact that Steam is pretty much the defacto way to get Valve games now. You can pre-purchase them, usually 10% less than retail up to the day before release, and instead of futzing with a disc, you can just redownload everything. Valve is probably expecting more sales on the PC, but they want to distribute it via Steam rather than retail. Orange Box seemed to have sold more via Steam rather than retail as well, as the retail stores marked it down within a month, whereas it's still $50 on Steam. (Last I checked, it may have gone down)

And no, PC gaming is not dying. You just need to know where to look for the quality.

It's actually more of this, The PC gamers of a few years ago are getting the consoles this generation, and more will next generation since game's release sooner on console than PC generally (excluding Valve's games), so the sales are very small compared to consoles. That and security software is forcing alot of people to not buy even the MOST hyped PC games, look at Spore with it's DRM software, I've seen a ton of threads of people pissed off and not purchasing the most hyped PC game of the last 2 years. So what you'll be seeing is the general audience switching to console, while the hardcore and casual will be sticking it out on the PC.

Ok. That would be cool to have co-op though in Story.
