Playstation Plus Members Get Free Co-Op Classics

News
Twitter facebook googlebuzz

Is there anything better than a nice evening spent with a friend, revisiting a classic co-op game from days of yore?  Well, how about doing that for free?  Playstation Plus members will be able to do just that starting next month.  To celebrate the Sega Genesis Collection's arrival in the Playstation Store, Plus members will get exclusive early access to titles like Golden Axe, Altered Beast, and Streets of Rage 2.  Also, Sonic the Hedgehog 2, which just barely has co-op, but hey, it's Sonic, right?

Each title will be available for free download for a limited time only, so make sure you grab them while you can.  For those of us poor schmucks who aren't Premium members, not only will we have to wait almost a month, but we'll have to plunk down $4.99 as well.  That Premium membership is looking pretty good right about now, but now nearly as good as Golden Axe's Tyris Flare.  She's hot, LITERALLY, ya know.

I would never pay $5 for these, but for free I will give them a try with my PS membership. I have fond memories of Golden Axe but I don't remember if I ever played the other ones.

"She's hot, LITERALLY, ya know."

Blaze from SoR always tickled my fancy more.

Goldenaxe is one of my most played XBLA games - simple gameplay that anyone can pick up and play in co-op. You'll be surprised how many none gamers would rather play a retro title than something they perceive as modern and complex.

While these free games (I am a PS+ member) are all well in good, I already own them all in the Sonic's Ultimate Genesis Collection. There are two things that HAVE to be done for me to even bother downloading:

-Full-on trophy support for each individual title (not just one trophy per game like was allotted to them in Sonic's Collection)
-Online co-op, particularly for Streets of Rage 2 and Golden Axe II. I was so upset when I discovered that these great co-op classics that were on Sonic's Collection were not playable online.

Has anyone noticed that the visual style of Marvel vs Capcom 3 would lend itself well to a side scrolling beat em up like Streets of Rage or Golden Axe? I sure hope Capcom realises this and dishes out a new Final Fight or Knights of the Round game.
