Beyond Co-Op, May 22nd to May 28th

Welcome to Beyond Co-Op, a weekly piece that talks about industry stories that may or may not be related to co-op gaming.

The stories for this week:

- Duke Nukem Forever Goes Gold, End Times Coming?
- Syndicate Script Leaks Out?
- GameFly Acquires Direct2Drive, PC Game Rentals Coming Soon?
- Max Payne 3 and Agent Still in Development
- Hunted: Demon's Forge Out Next Week

Duke Nukem Forever Goes Gold, End Times Coming?

Yes, Virginia, Duke will make his release date of June 14 here in the States. After a long time (I forget the number of years) we will finally get our hands on Duke Nukem Forever as the game went gold this past week. Maybe that guy who said the world would end last Saturday wasn’t far off. I mean, this is one of the signs of the Apocalypse, right?

Syndicate Script Leaks Out?

You’ll find a lot of talk about extremely long gestating games this week it seems. Syndicate came back into the news this week with word that the script of the new game, supposedly being developed by Starbreeze since 2007, may have leaked out. I would figure one of these years EA will show this game off. Maybe E3 this year is finally that time. More Syndicate could be a very good thing.

GameFly Acquires Direct2Drive, PC Game Rentals Coming Soon?

IGN and their merging with UGO meant that they had to drop a few things, so Direct2Drive was put up for sale. GameFly snatched it up, but it is unknown how they will use it. One would hope they’ll use it as a rental service where a person can download a game and play it for X number of days and then it is taken off their computer, but I may have a pie in the sky idea and they could be thinking something else.

Max Payne 3 and Agent Still in Development

Along with Take Two unloading their financial losses, they also chose to talk about how awesome LA Noire is as an IP (with hope sequels will be coming) and let everyone know that Max Payne 3 and Agent are still in development. I would think that both would be shown off at E3, but given how many times Max Payne 3 has been restarted (at least 3 known times) who really knows. Agent was talked about in passing either last E3 or the year before.

Hunted: Demon's Forge Out Next Week

Hunted: Demon’s Forge has a nice open week to itself before the high profile releases start unloading starting next week at the beginning of E3 (inFAMOUS 2, I’m looking at you).
