Co-Opticast Episode 3: Halo Kart Confirmed in my Mouth

Staff October 7th, 2008 at 8:45 AM

The clouds parted, the rays of sun shone through, and Billy proclaimed - let there be a 3rd episode of the Co-Opticast. So it was. This week we talk about some of the recent delays in online co-op modes in high profile titles like Fable 2 and LittleBigPlanet. We talk about the Halo ARG, the possibility of a kart racer in the Halo universe. What's more is we discuss recent happenings in the Co-Optimus world of articles. Can you handle the Co-Opticast Episode 3?

Make sure you folks listen to the outtro.

Thank you for the direct download link! Will listen to this later today.

Let me know if you guys have any download issues - I'm fairly certain they are resolved.

Having trouble d/l-ing from iTunes. Could just be a temp thing, but wanted to give a head's up.

pheriannath at 06:12 AM on 10.7.2008
It hasn't propagated to iTunes as far as I've seen.

I was able to hear the whole thing on the site! Yah! Haven't tried iTunes with it yet. Heard the whole show too. Nick "Pulley-oh" was still a bit soft spoken, and at times sounded like you were in a phone booth, had a slight echo feel. I skipped around a lot, as I don't have a PS3 and don't care about Little Big Planet. I would preorder Halo Kart right now though if I could!

Didn't really like the outtro music (or should I say "extro" music?) but the "outtake" at the end was funny. Glad you beeped the words at the end. Meant to ask before, I'm not sure if y'all will have profanity in these or not, but if so I'd like to request that you mark them NSFW or something equivalent if you do. My ears are fragile.

Nick, I was listening to the first two Opti-casts again, and to be brutally honest, I'm not looking forward to this one so much if you still haven't balanced the volume.

Nothing against the quality: I run an aux line to my car stereo while driving home, and if I turn up the volume loud enough to hear you over the road noise, then Mike just about damages the speakers.

You would be doing everyone a great service if you could find a way to balance that out.

OrigamiPanther at 09:43 AM on 10.7.2008
Consider it an actual recreation of what it's like to have Mike in your car. It's why I don't let him in mine anymore

Finally got it downloaded through iTunes and listening now. Audio levels are pretty balanced for me, but it's headphones at work, so...

pheriannath at 09:45 AM on 10.7.2008
We rebalanced the audio on this one.

Also, we're trying not to swear too much, but if we get loose with our language, we'll probably beep out the profanity.

bapenguin at 10:19 AM on 10.7.2008
Yeah - we are working on audio issues. I think we did better this time.

I think I might try changing the room I record in, might be part of the problem. I also think I need to stay close to the mic, I tend to back off.

Finally - I just generally have a soft voice, perhaps I'll need to "act" for the podcast a bit.

txshurricane at 11:14 AM on 10.7.2008
I'm waiting for Bap's voice to crack when he starts projecting!

Just don't go morning zoo or strip club dj.

justabaldguy at 11:57 AM on 10.7.2008
I know, like the guys on K-BBL on the Simpsons! I could see Nick getting a little Bob Uecker though, that'd be sweet!

Jussst a bit outside!

pheriannath at 01:17 PM on 10.7.2008
Nick's using a "real" mic, and I'm using a headset... I could dance around the room and always be near the mic.

Just listened to the podcast and thought I'd stop by and share a few thoughts.

Re: hot dog costumes in Saint's Row 2- We have here in Milwaukee a bunch of goofs dressing up like sausages. Ever see what we do during our 7th inning stretch at Miller Park? I think they're nationally known but we'll find out.

I liked that outro. Never heard someone play a recorder solo over a hip hop beat. Seriously, sounds like someone pulled out their plastic recorder from grade school for that track. I enjoyed it nonetheless.

blakepro at 01:28 PM on 10.8.2008
I can confirm that this came through itunes just fine.

Good work guys!

I finally listened to the entire thing while in traffic today, and WOW was I surprised at the shout-out. I thought for a sec that my post about the Halo Wars trailer being outsourced might get a mention, but when that passed, I pretty much was just impressed that Mike and I were on the same page.

Then you guys both had an open laugh at the latest Co-op Couples article, and the sense of satisfaction was completely overwhelming for me. To actually hear someone enjoying that is such a great feeling. I'm glad you can relate, too. Thanks, Bap, for bringing that up, and thanks, Mike for elaborating into MMO territory -- I agree with everything you said. I hope I can continue to bring quality content to the site.

The volume levels were much better, although Mike is still very tinny and a bit piercing at times. At least I could hear both of you clearly while driving, so kudos for the improvement.

The tease about having a guest for the next episode is intriguing. It would be good to get more commentary from Marc, or maybe we can finally hear from Loren or an EvilAvatar alumni (congrats on the graduation, by the way, folks!). Maybe a crossover guest from another CoG site...?

pheriannath at 04:13 AM on 10.11.2008
Yeah, my mic really sucks...

We'll probably go for a three-man operation, with the third person rotating in and out depending on who is available.
