There's nothing like waiting till the last minute to announce your game has a cooperative mode. That's just the case for Ace Combat: Assault Horizon on the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 which has finally announced the details of its cooperative mode after months of speculation. Just how close to release are we for the game? It's out next week.
Ace Combat: Assault Horizon will feature an online co-op mode for up to three players through eight missions that are taken from the campaign and optimized for co-op. That means co-op objectives, harder enemies, and plenty opportunities for team work.
The co-op mode also offers to unique gameplay elements, or at least, versions of gameplay elements designed for co-op. In Dog Fight Mode (DFM) - multiple players can move in close to a target and engage DFM to gain a tactical advantage - the more players engaging in the mode the more damage will be inflicted.
In Air Strike Mode (ASM) players initiate an attack on ground forces, laying out a path of destruction. Co-Op players can team up for a group ASM where each plane follows the same destructive path, one after another dishing serious damage to the enemy.
So there you have it. Not sure why it took this long to announce a co-op mode for the game, we've been wanting to cover the title for some time, but without an official confirmation that the cooperative mode even exists, we couldn't bring you any details...at all.
The good news is there's even a few co-op achievements to earn:
Veteran Pilot (20 points)
Play for an extensive amount of time in competitive online or mission co-op.
Warwolf Squadron (30 points)
Clear all levels in mission co-op.
Formation Attack (20 points)
Join the same DFM with two others and shoot down a hostile (mission co-op).
Welcome to Mission Co-Op (20 points)
Clear 1 level in mission co-op.
And finally...some screenshots. Ace Combat: Assault Horizon is out on October 11th for the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 with three player online co-op.
