Gears of War 2 Co-Op Campaign Mode Impressions

After last night's Gears of War co-op night I'm totally stoked for Gears 2. I forgot how visceral and satisfying the game is. Nothing beats popping a boomers head off from 50 yards with a sniper rifle, watching it explode like a watermelon hitting a mac truck. We previously posted plenty of impressions of the 5 player co-op horde mode, but now previews are showing up for the 2 player co-op campaign mode.
The folks over at Kotaku have some hands on impressions of the campaign mode, and while they started out solo, it didn't take long to realize they should be playing co-op. A fellow journalist jumped in, and before they knew it 4 hours had gone by. The preview seems favorable, and really goes into a lot of details about what the cooperative mode will present.
The split routes of the first game make a reappearance, about once every other level or so according to the article. On top of this, there are more things for your co-op buddy to do; protect NPCs, kill more enemies, help solve puzzles, etc. All in all it's looking to match the top notch cooperative play of the first game.
Be sure to check out their full preview right here.
Perhaps while you are waiting for the game to come out you can check out Gears 2 lead designer, Cliff Bleszinski's Zune playlist. You know you are going to want to use it when you pick up that Gears of War 2 Zune come November 7th.

Checked out Cliff B's Zune card and then realized I could also check my own out using the same web address and changing the user name at the end to mine rather than his. I'm sure lovin' my Zune lately. It may not be an ipod but it's got some great bells and whistles and is only getting better with each new software update. The way it creates a Zune card similar to the XBOX 360 gamercard is one of the best features in my opinion.
