Trine 2 Announces Unlimited Mode

Trine 2 will offer a special mode with no class combo restrictions

In the first Trine, as well as the normal mode for upcoming Trine 2, the co-op is class-restricted (by which I mean players can only have one of each class in a game at a time). It makes sense, as the whole magic of Trine is to use the different abilities of the characters to navigate everyone through the various levels. Just this past week, though, developer Frozenbyte announced that Trine 2 will also have a special "unlimited mode." This mode, separate from the main campaign, will allow players to play as any combination of classes they want. Always fighting over who gets to play the rogue? No problem, just bring three in unlimited mode!

They've also provided a short video showing off the new mode:

Trine 2 will be out on XBLA, PSN, and PC with 3-player co-op later this year.

This is awesome, don't get me wrong, but my favorite part about this game is the online co-op =D

I think being able to play with 3 of the same character would actually kind of wreck parts of Trine. Part of what makes the co-op fun is trying to figure out how to get from point A to point B with the different character abilities. Letting everyone grapple everywhere or levitate platforms all over the place wouldn't be nearly as interesting. It might be fun for a bit just as a change of pace, but I don't see it being anything more than a quick diversion.

@SecretAsianManz - I'm sure I'll like the main campaign better, but the trailer makes Unlimited Mode look very fun, and you can tell it still requires you to work together to solve interesting puzzles in order to get from point A to point B. You're right though- it does take away that one more thing you had to constantly think about which made the game even more challenging, and in return- more fun.
