Would You Buy Co-Op Expansion Packs?

That's the question EA wants to know.  While nothing is set in stone yet, EA is toiling with the idea of having seperate expansions for the game that are specific to what a player wants. The idea came up for the recently released Red Alert 3, and looks like it could actually happen.  Examples of this would be a single player story expansion, or a multiplayer map pack expansion, or even a co-op expansion.

Producer and C&C TV presenter David Silverman has gone on record stating that this model of expansion would "be a little bit more nimble and help address the demand from the fans faster."

Sounds good to me, I'm all for co-op expansions!  Frankly, standard vs. multiplayer has bored me lately.

I'm just imagining now all of the old games that I'd dig back up - if they had a paid expansion available!

I purchased Doom on XBLA only because it had 4-player coop - if it didn't have coop, I never would've dropped the 800 points to download it. Likewise, I refused to pick up the XBLA version of Duke Nukem, simply because it didn't have split screen (both of those game would be considered 'expansions' in my mind, since I've already owned them on previous consoles).

So, yes, I'd absolutely pay for coop expansions, and even for older games!

I have to say that yes, I would buy co-op expansions, but only if the expansion was created in response to community requests or if the reason that co-op was not in the retail copy was due to space limitations.

Thankfully, because of the anti-competitive nature of co-op, adding co-op as a patch or expansion is safer than trying to do the same with competitive games, wherein a new glitch may tip the "fairness" scales.

I don't know about that, but if the did address the first part then yeah I'm in. GRAW2 is a good example, I think, of where they extended the life of a game in several directions by adding a little DLC. Great maps, a few extra cheevos (as the kids are calling them these days), it all added up to good fun.

I'm not a big spender though, so for me to buy it there'd have to be serious replay value. I guess if they'd added extra levels for Gears of War that would have been a consideration, since I felt once you completed it there wasn't much left to go back for as I am bored with multiplayer vs modes.

Yes. I would. I specifically bought the Army of Two Challenge pack because I thought it was co-op in nature. What I didn't realize until after the fact that it was co-op/versus, meaning it was only playable online against other people. We got into Aot waaaay after the fact, so there wasn't exactly an abundance of people to play against. Waste of money, but I would still buy more expansions if they were to add more life to the co-op experience.

I'm actually hoping that some GTAIV DLC will offer a more substantive co-op mode.

Agreed. My fingers have been firmly crossed on this for a while. One of the advantages of it being DLC is they KNOW everyone has an online connection so they can do more with it.

I would definetely buy, but I must say that this idea scares me a little. Imagine if they release a co-op expansion and only a few people buy it? I really donīt know how big is the co-op community

I would buy, but like justabaldguy, it would have to add serious replay value to it (*cough* Left 4 Dead *cough* HINT *cough*).

Also, I REALLY like Co-op where there's a STORY. That really drives me, I loved playing co-op with my nephew through the entire Halo series because of the story and the epic scale of the whole thing.

That's why I like the GRAW 2 maps, although I really wish their co-op campaign was presented in the same way as the single-player version.

Co-op for RTS games seems like a no-brainer, really. I'd be all over a co-op expansion for games I've purchased and enjoyed.

This is a tough one to answer for a funny reason: I only buy co-op games. These days I'm pretty much only interested in games that I can play with my boyfriend and we don't pick up anything else. I have my GOTY Morrowind when I want to play single player, and I haven't seen anything even come close to rivalling Morrowind yet.

So, to a certain extent yes I would buy a co-op expansion. But without co-op, I wouldn't have bought it to begin with to want an expansion. I guess if an interesting game came out, then a while later had a co-op expansion, I might be tempted to get both.
