Grab Some Friends for These Great Co-Op Video Games

If you are an avid gamer, you know how enjoyable it is to put your favorite game on, perhaps turn the lights down, and just play for hours and hours. When it's just you matching wits against the computer, it is very easy to get lost in your own digital world. However, it's often fun to play with other people. Whether online or in the same room, co-op games add some new elements, such as teamwork, organization, and probably yelling and/or cursing. In other words, playing with some buddies is pretty great.

And while you may have played Halo or Call of Duty, there are many other co-op games that may not be on your radar (including those pointed out by Gameranx). A game like Monaco, for example, is perfect for you if you're a fan of heist films. Each player selects his or her class, such as the lookout or locksmith, and then everyone gets embroiled in an exciting adventure.

Do you remember learning about Jamestown in school? Well, there is actually a game (loosely) based on it. In Jamestown: Legend of the Lost Colony, up to four players play colonists who have to stop both aliens and the invading Spanish. It's great fun and a history lesson (sort of).

Superheroes, of course, are not exempt from appearing in cooperative games. LEGO has made some fun titles, such as the newly released Marvel's Avengers and 2013's Marvel Super Heroes. In both, players have the option of playing as pretty much any character in the Marvel universe, even including obscure folks like Falcon and Scarlet Witch. Their predecessor was LEGO Batman 2, which was another impressive co-op game. Although there aren't as many character choices in this one, players do get to play Batman, Robin, Superman, Wonder Woman and others as they team up to fight evil.

Although a great character, Batman's popularity seems to have dropped off lately. This is probably due to Christopher Nolan's trilogy ending, plus the rise of the Avengers and other characters. However, Batman will soon be back in the public eye with the release of the upcoming Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice and the Justice League movies that are in the works. And while he hasn't been appearing on the big screen, Batman is all over small screens, as he shows up in new video games all the time, like last year's Arkham Knight. In fact, the Caped Crusader even has his own five-reel slot machine on Gala Bingo. In this game, players have to help Batman catch escaped inmates, with the ultimateand profitablegoal of capturing his archenemy, the Joker.

If you're looking for another great co-op game that is a little more old-school, or if you're just feeling nostalgic, you can't go wrong with Streets of Rage. The second one is great, but for a true cooperative experience, try number three. Another excellent co-op game featuring crime-fighters is Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Turtles In Time. You and your pals get to pick your favorite turtles and then start kicking some Foot butt. Find other great games in that particular vein on Gamebreaker.
