CCV: Gaming Inside And Out - Benefits of Living in a Crazy Place

It's a saying in many places of the country, but never so relevant as Colorado: "Don't like the weather? Wait 5 minutes!" Which is painfully true here. Coloradans will bring winter jackets on picnics in the summer, or stock the trunk of their cars with an umbrella, a snow shovel, a down jacket, some blankets, and a change of shorts/tank tops all for a family outing.

Though it's also boasted that we have 300 days of sun per year - that doesn't necessarily mean the entire day will be sunny. This makes balancing my indoor activities with my outdoor activities interesting but unstable.

For instance, Tuesday of this week I spent 80% of the day outside in the sun, digging a 2ft hole in the gravel-clay soil of my back yard in order to plant a tree. This tree was a huge success, and soon we will have dwarf peaches. By that evening, the weather changed from 90degrees (F) and sunny to raining, windy, and a whopping 40degrees (F) outside. I was able to get a sunburn and play in the dirt before retiring to my underground dwelling to enjoy some gaming, reading, and writing.

I'm greatful to have such insanity in my weather, otherwise I'd be far too tempted to ignore one or the other, either inside or out. I'd either spend all of my time with my dog in the yard, or all of my time growing roots on my couch. When the rain, wind, or freak snow-storm picks up this summer I'll spend my time playing Outland or Portal 2. Or vice-versa, if it's 80 degrees out and sunny, I'll go for a nice long walk with my dog. Both of these things can happen in the same day here, and I'm perfectly okay with nature making my indecisive mind up for me.

As it stands, I also take my gaming and reading outside with me. I recently acquired a hammock for my yard, and what better way to spend hammock time than playing DS (Pokemon Black currently) or reading a kindle or paper book (Ultimate Spider-Man Clone Saga)? I can't think of anything I'd rather be doing while rocking precariously in a strip of cloth, ready to be toppled at the slightest breeze.

Portable gaming isn't for everyone, but when you gotta catch 'em all - it's an ideal way to get your game on. Make sure you're considerate if you're gaming in public by wearing headphones where necessary, no one should be "that gamer."

In other news, there are alternate ways to get your geek on while outside:

Yes, I am an attention-whore on behalf of my doggy. This is Isley, and she's awesome.
