Indie-Ana Co-Op and the Children of Morta Interview - Page 2

Co-Optimus: Given the familial bond linking each character, what impact do you see character death having in this game? Will it affect the other characters in some sort of gameplay fashion?

Amir: This is an area that we are still working on, there are three paths we can take, we have not finalized it yet. The setting lets us get very emotional and have a lot of drama but we have to see just how much of that is good for our target audience.

Co-Optimus: What are the plans for co-op in the game? How many players will be supported? Will the aforementioned character abilities have any kind of synergy with one another?

Amir: We just recently passed the Kickstarter stretch goal which included co-op so we are very excited about it. We believe that this game will feel very good in co-op. Two is the minimum but we will try to work on 4 player co-op if possible. The design of the items and abilities has not finalized yet, we will definitely look into possibilities for synergy and a real cooperation experience between the players. That is were co-op can really shine!

Co-Optimus: Any plans down the road for online co-op play, or do you feel the game works best as local only?

Amir: We do not have plans for online yet. One reason is that the technical code base for the game is rather stable now and adding the online co-op feature would require major architectural changes, we just have to make sure we have the needed time and resources to do that.

Co-Optimus: What do you feel defines a "good" co-op experience for players?

Amir: The opportunity to really collaborate with one another, the possibility to communicate in the form of gameplay inside the game. A situation where 1 1 = 4! Seeing new experiences that can happen only in co-op mode.

Co-Optimus: What are some of your favorite co-op games to play?

Amir: Oh I have been raised with co-op. My first serious gaming device was the Nintendo Entertainment System (Famicon) back in the 80’s and on that machine, almost all games had the co-op feature. Starting for me with Super Mario Brothers! Later on I really enjoyed Gears of War, Diablo, Torchlight 2, Left 4 Dead, Alien Swarm, Shank 2, Castle Crashers (enjoying with my 6 year old son) and many more.

Co-Optimus: Once the Kickstarter campaign wraps up, what’s next? Any idea of when the game could possibly see release?

Amir: We have already started our regular development schedule. We would need to continue full force on completing the game. Our plan for early access is October this year.
