Journal of William "Billy" Redbot:
March 19, 2012
Today I participated in my first joint operation in the field. Ghost Leader let me choose my favorite rifle for the op; of course, I chose the trusty Sig M556. I tried out the new 9mm Beretta PX4 Storm...it's a handy little pistol! It doesn't pack the punch of my favorite Colt Special Forces .45, but it handled the mud and dirt much better.
Twelve of us went out today, which is almost overkill, but seeing as I and two other Ghosts were being broken in, it was best to have a few extra pairs of boots on the ground. We each tagged and bagged a terrorist, and I actually planted a C4 charge; it was on a timed detonation sequence, so I didn't get to push the button, but it gave me a rush anyway!Mom and Dad still think I'm stationed at Fort Bragg going through Ranger sniper school. If they only knew! It feels good to make a real difference, and deploying with a competent team of friends is the way to go.
Captain Mitchell says we'll get some more action next week. I hope so; there's plenty of work to do.

There are several games that you could call 'staples' of Co-Optimus...these are the games that are built around co-op from the ground up. It's a given that they will be featured for at least one Xbox Live Co-Op Night, and they'll probably be the subject of at least 15 minutes' worth of at least one Co-Opticast . When a game comes along that meets these criteriae, we celebrate and hand out Golden Billy idols (see what I did there?) like it's the inauguration party of President Ken Levine.
Every once in a while, though, surprises abound, and a game will catch our fancy by accident. The Ghost Recon Advanced Warfighter series and its busload-players co-op had been pretty well established before Co-Optimus came on the scene. Nick and the original crew worked hard to bring the games database and news updates to the public, kick-starting the machine that would become the premiere resource for co-op gamers. It's safe to say that the 16-player GRAW was ahead of its time.
Thanks to several community members who used the forums as a meet-up, its sequel - GRAW 2 - is still a strong contender among the stack of games that co-op gamers frequent over a year later. In fact, the meetup thread is threatening a 26th page, and a GRAW 2 night is being hammered out for this week or next.
You should have talked about Bakken nailing a sniper a mile away. I could see him.
I have high, very high hopes for the next installment, whenever THAT would be...
I have never played any of the GRAW games. If there's going to be an official night, I would certainly think about picking it up as I'm sure it's dirt cheap now.
Next week, I'll announce the next intended game on my Twitter feed, and I'll be sure to try and set up at least two game nights to gather content.
We'll do more than just military shooters. In addition to the CoD and Tom Clancy shooter games, we'll get around to HAWX, Halo 3, Far Cry 2*, and maybe even an RTS or two. Focus will always be on team-based action and strategy on the fly. If you can get blown up, we'll try to cover it.
*This one's a good way in the future, but I hope to do something really cool with the custom map editor. Stick around.
