Gears of War 2 CoG Tags found at Co-Optimus HQ

Quick, everyone check your co-op partner.  I think we lost a man.  A CoG tag has mysteriously shown up at Co-Optimus Headquarters which can only mean one thing, there's a fallen soldier somewhere.

Seriously though, the CoG tag opens up some unique content on a special website, and lucky for you - we have the code that unlocks it.

Head on over to http://gearsofwar.com/lastday and enter this code:  329279-DN5XS-AO

You'll see a little red CoG button at the bottom, this is where you click to access the code screen.

I want.

You know, I was thinking about buying some .99% pure silver pellets. Maybe I should and then get them molded from one of those.

Um? Anyone find out what name to use?

Edit: Got it. The problem was that the last digit is in the code an "o" and not a zero.
Hmm. Not sure if I'm up for another ARG.

Pretty lame that Firfox will not load the page. At least not for me. I can log on using IE.

Still, it's a promo and I did get a sweet bground image.

bapenguin at 08:27 PM on 10.8.2008
Weird. Works in firefox for me. It's like all flash, so maybe if you have an ad blocker or something running.

all i get is the background page also, hey u wanna sell that thing?

Hmm, worked in FF2 but not FF3. Not sure if I have some settings different between the two.

Some of the extra content has a very serious horror tinge to it, definitely more disturbing than the advertising I remember from the first Gears.

Oh, and that COG is awesome.

I think more stuff is going to be unlocked as time goes on - we may even get more codes or something for the site. I'll definitely let you guys know.

Thanks, bro.

Looks like I found all the stuff on the site... but the "cog tag missing" pops up for a lot of it.

So is there any chance that I can get my hands on one of those tags... eh Bap, buddy?

rinichanraar at 11:38 PM on 10.8.2008
Wow, that COG tag looks pretty cool. If they sold those, I'd totally buy one.

Dunno what's up, put in the code, it downloads...something, then makes a little music noise and I'm just looking at the destruction in the flash thing again. Nothing else.

TrackZero at 12:29 AM on 10.9.2008
Ah, there we go. It was my pop-up blocking in Firefox. Worked in IE, got a desktop background....

AgtFox at 12:31 AM on 10.9.2008
I think it is more than that though, there are numbers and letters in it, but you'd need a magnifying glass probably. I'm sure plenty of people are on the case of deciphering it.

TrackZero at 12:32 AM on 10.9.2008
Ok, now it's even weirder. Zooming in on the "ascii" in the background (as the file is named), I can't make them out clearly. But it looks like I see a bunch of Hiragana (Japanese) text in there. I don't spot any English characters.

TrackZero at 12:35 AM on 10.9.2008
Yup, definitely a bunch of Hiragana in there. Possibly Katakana as well.

Congratulations, Co-optimus!

I thought it was just that one wallpaper, but j3di mentioned on CoG:

I've only been able to get that one wallpaper, but I haven't been trying very hard.

I'll have to give this code a try later and see if it actually yields anything new. I was poking around the Last Day site over the weekend and was able to "break" the code to get in.

And by "break" I mean randomly pressing keys until the CSID filled up.

tellock at 10:04 AM on 10.9.2008
There's a Gears of War fansite tracking the Last Day developments pretty closely. If you're interested, they have a number of the other codes released to other sites (although they don't have your code up yet). You can find the details in the gears forums at epicgames.

Even without the codes, though, you can find more to download by looking for the red skulls painted on the walls in various places.

Congrats on getting one of these. Seeing how new CoG is (even though the players behind it have been around), that they're including you in the code releases is a nice recognition.

tellock at 10:14 AM on 10.9.2008
Edit Ah, I just realized this was at Co-optimus, not CoG, which isn't nearly as new, but still, I mean the kudos...

AgtFox at 10:25 AM on 10.9.2008
Not much of a difference tellock, obviously with people that work on both CO and CoG (bap, pheriannath and me) there is an amount of shared contacts between the two.
