I too hope the trend continues in coop and developers also don't forget about those of us who still have friends come over, In my opinion that was the one thing Halo got right the ability to bring a guest on the same box online with you, Left 4 Dead also had this feature and I pray that many others follow down this road.
Heres looking forward to 2009 and even more great coop games!

 RE:2008 Co-Op Year in Review
I love the idea of building games from the ground up with co-op. I want to see designers seriously focus on drop in, drop out game play. That can make or break a good co-op as experience. Halo 3 was fun, but man having to restart a level if someone's connection dropped got old REALLY quickly. I think L4D has it down perfectly, especially with the option to have the CPU take over for a human player at any time. Would love to have others implement this too.
Keep the co-op coming, Mr. Developer!

 RE:2008 Co-Op Year in Review
This was a great year in coop. In most previous years, I've had to hunt for good coop games, but this year there were so many that there are easily still a dozen games that I want to play and just haven't had the time or the money for. That's a nice change.
Going into '09, I hope we see further innovation in the coop scene. I'd like to see some more experimental attempts like PixelJunk Eden or the cooperative level design in LBP.

Yea L4D hand it down the best being able to drop in and out of play is a must now. I still want to see games that allow for guest play though.
I use to be like a competitive gamer but now I have found games that let me coop the experience are so much more fulfilling.
