Yesterday, Infinity Ward Community Manager Robert Bowling posted on Twitter that a 10-page exclusive reveal of Modern Warfare 2 would be featured in the next issue of Game Informer.

It was inevitable that scans of the article would hit the internet, but I think this is some sort of record: this morning an article popped up on hub site Colony of Gamers providing some information gleaned from the magazine write-up. While a few of the details are exciting, it is not all good news.

You see, Infinity Ward has decided to forgo the co-op campaign in exchange for a series of side missions called the Special Forces mode. While the prospect of these co-op missions is interesting, it should not be completely en lieu of co-op in the single-player campaign.

Well...at least we get something. Though not ideal at all.

Kind of lame I was eager to see how IW did with a coop campaign.

Was also sad to hear no co-op in the campaign but I'm sure Special Forces will rock I have faith in Infinity Ward!

I am equally sad, and while I have played the Mile High Club level, but not sure I understand the comparison between it and Special Forces.

Does that mean Special Forces will be timed? I hope not.

Yea that would suck I am not a huge fan of timed missions, it takes away from the overall enjoyment of a game if you are fighting the clock to just clear a level, pretty much forces you to take one route to complete the game and follow that everytime you do it.

No coop for story is sad. I do hope they surprise us down the road and say they will include it. Still, I'm really excited about this game!

boooo... this game just dropped back to my "maybe" list where CoD games normally stay. with all the feedback they got, i was hopeful. oh well, maybe next time

I would prefer the non saving tacked on co-op over no story co-op at all.

This could be the dealbreaker between rental and purchase for me.

Couldn't agree more, you would think after seeing the success of other coop games they would at least try and make a coop story, if anything Modern Warfare is the perfect place to implement coop.

I'm disappointed that they aren't implementing co-op for campaign mode, but I respect their decision. I just hope that the PC version of MW2 will allow users to create co-op side missions in the same way that World at War on the PC allowed users to make custom Zombie maps.

That is a step back. I thought that, since COD 5 was co-op, all COD games would follow this way!

I was one of the few that thought that CoD 4 wasn't "all that". And this one not having story co-op makes it a no-buy for me. Moreso after all the fun my mates and I had with CoD 5

Wow...you people are quick to shoot down a game you havent even played because its missing one small feature that no one had the right to expect anyway. IW has yet to put coop in a CoD game, so the fact there are some coop missions should be enough. If IW couldnt get coop to work right in their single player missions then Im glad they cut it. I would rather have a mind blowing single player experience then an average coop game. I say respect the developers decision, they obviously know what they are doing. I personaly cant wait!

well the only game time i get is with my wife so it pretty much has to be split screen campaign. we generally play through the campaign mode once or twice and then move onto something else. we play some MP modes but CoD has never been on that list for us. i imagine a lot of the other people griping have similar situations.

Exactly. Its pretty much the only way I'll get to play through shooter games is by having a buddy over for some split screen co-op action while my wife is entertained with something else.

I'm fine. I'm probably not going to get this game anyway.

If you think that a co-op campaign is "one small feature", then I think you forgot what site you were on. (Hint: Co-Optimus).

And I doubt anyone here is means by not having Co-op Campaign the game will suck or be inferior to previous COD works.

We are merely stating our disappointment that the game is missing a feature that is gaining momentum every year in the industry.

And as txshurricane has mentioned we are on Co-optimus.com which means we are particularly concerned with co-op features which means our subjective requirements to BUY a game revolves around co-op features.

This doesn't mean there won't be any posts praising the fun and stellar gameplay this game will have once the game goes live.

And heck, it still has co-op in it. And since that feature is still shrouded in secrecy there is still hope that, that one co-op feature may turn the tide.
