Post One Big Cooperative Effort -- Battlefield 1943

As I type this, I'm filing it in the back of my mind for a future Battlefield Report. While it's not an intimiate battleground tactic, DICE has implemented a feature in the upcoming Battlefield 1943 that is cooperative in nature: a "community unlockable map".

In addition to re-tooled iterations of the original Battlefield 1942 maps Wake Island, Guadalcanal, and Iwo Jima, each console version will automatically unlock a third map -- Coral Sea -- when 43 million kills are reached by its respective community.

Granted, players really don't have to do anything except play the game, but the prospect of having a universal goal and subsequent reward for all players is the heart of co-op. Everyone plays, everyone wins.

Could be interesting if it supports splitscreen and bots. The most fun I had with Battlefield 1942 was playing with bots on Operation Market Garden good times.

i liked vietnam better... maybe it was because WWII is over-done. plus it had the 3d map feature. i definitely enjoyed 1942 though. any word on release date or pricing? hopefully there's a demo too.

I completely forgot about Vietnam man that had a killer soundtrack, good times reliving Apocalypse Now flying around in the choppers.

yeah the soundtrack rocked.. some of my favorite songs are on there.

i always felt like a sitting duck in the choppers and i always flew the jets into the ground or off the map... dunno what it was about flying in that game, i just never got it. i dominated in tanks though :)

but anyway, yeah this game should be fun even if its not vietnam

All those battlefield games on PC were awesome playing coop. Vietnam had mortars that were fun to use. 1943 had huge ships that you could drive over to the enemy base and pound away at.

Funny, I'm playing Battlefield: Bad Company right now.

Trying to finish it and I can't help but think KILL THE AI TEAMMATES! :D

Seriously, it's moments like being blasted by a tank and only I can chose between shooting at the tank in vain or repairing my tank to shoot the tank.

If there was a game that screamed co-op as much as Far Cry 2...it is this game.

This is also the first Battlefield game I am actually enjoying. Most I find are just clusters of spawns everywhere. This seems to have a more laxed approach.

Of course I haven't played MP at all.

Going to keep an eye out for Vietnam, thanks for the heads up.

I recently got hooked on Battlefield: BC after hating it for awhile. For some reason, I must have found my element or something. It's a lot of fun. I just wish it had a way to practice on the maps, because I can never get into a helo to practice flying.
