Post Magic: The Gathering Unleashes Cards On XBLA

A favorite past time of many is the collecting of Magic: The Gathering cards to unleash on a poor, unsuspecting soul at our local hangout. For those that didn't spend all of their lunch money on Magic cards, it is a game of fantasy using playing cards. By collecting "Mana" or land cards each turn, you will be able to spend that mana to unleash creatures and spells to devastate your opponent. Of course, it's more complex than that, but that is the gist of it.

Not only does this game look 1000x better than MGO, the fact that every player is on an even field with the same decks is very appealing.

Normally, I'd be in favor of creating my own deck, but in digital form, I don't want to have to spend money for digital cards to be put into a deck - and find that everyone online is playing what everyone considers to be the best decks. You're either stuck with shitty decks, or going up against people blowing money on the game to beat you because they have disposable income.

At $10, this is actually pretty enticing! If it goes on sale at Amazon's store, I'll definitely buy it.

Man, that is sweet. I never collect Magic back in the day (my CCGs of choice were Star Wars and Middle-earth), but my friends collected it, and we always did battle. I think its safe to say that if this ever found its way onto PSN I would pick it up in a heartbeat.

Its one of the simpler CCGs, with very clear basic rules that are not very complicated.

I checked this out at PAX last year and it's pretty awesome if you like Magic. I had the co-op campaign explained to me but I don't remember much of what the dood said other than you and a friend could sit on the same Xbox and take on PC players (since it would be pretty impossible for two people to play on the same console AGAINST each other).

As I said, the games rules are extremely simple and easy to pick up on. The trickiest thing is seeing how different cards come into play, such as how they alter the rules and whatnot. Im sure they will have some kind of tutorial included also, so that they can bring in people who never played the game before.

Me and my friend use to play Magic during breaks in between classes in college, man was it a blast.

Even decks would be a must, and if I am not mistaken it sounds alot like the magic tournament rules where everyone is given a starter deck and you just go from there.

My GF likes to play this, so could be a nice way to further her introduction to console gaming.

The only way to have even decks in Magic is to use the exact same deck. Although I have seen a stalemate. One player was hitting for 5000 a shot, the other was healing for 5000 every round but couldn't attack. I've also personally caused Armageddon.

I would assume that the co-op system works similar to a 2 vs. 2 battle. Which if it's like real life will have multiple options.
