Dead Space Extraction Sales Numbers: Undeservedly Disappointing

Postby DjinniMan » Wed Oct 21, 2009 11:50 am

Sometimes, we get very disappointed when sales numbers are released.  The latest example is Dead Space Extraction.  Let's take a look at everything this game has going for it.

- Sequel to a well reviewed single player title.

- An adult, "hardcore" game for the Wii amid a sea of shovelware

- Story, atmosphere, and setting are creepy, horrific, and incredibly well done

- Earned a very high 4.5 co-op review and high praise here at Co-Optimus

"Hardcore Gamers" and their hatred of the Wii is kind of annoying in a "little kid tantrum" kind of way; there are plenty of quality "hardcore" titles out there.

This game was fully enjoyable. I can say that as a survival horror fan, even, that this game is great. Visually appealing, satisfyingly creepy, etc.

The labels of Casual versus hardcore is getting more obnoxious as time goes on; if you game regularly, regardless of the game or the system, you're a /gamer/, period.

Too bad for this game. Bums me out, for sure.
That's what she said!

A lower price would help. I always find it a bit difficult to justify spending $50 for a rail shooter. That's especially true with all the great games hitting this quarter. Rail shooters typically don't have a whole lot of depth, duration, or replayability.

Exactly. As I say with boardlands, it's not enough for the price. I can get wolfenstien and riddick for £20 each, asking 40 for less then one of those games doesn't work out maths wise.

Even if we ignore that, there are lots of other, more appealing games on the way. Bowsers inside story and Mass Effect 2 are coming out soon.

The question is good hardcore titles. Most are PS2 hand me downs, 360 games cut to bits, or simply crap. Excluding Dead Space, the only recent release I have any interest in at all is Spyborgs, and that's because I'm a fan of the genre.

The Wii has a heck of a lot of great titles that can appeal to hardcore gamers, and Dead Space Extraction is one of them. Its such a shame that people are too misled to understand the value of the Wii. Its the cheapest of the next-gen systems, its games are the cheapest, and there is a huge collection of great games. The problem is that people focus too much on the Wii's greatest turnoff, which is the amount of shovelware it has due to the casual market it reaches.

To this day I think every gamer should own a Wii. If you just take a few moments of your time and do some research, you can guarantee yourself that you will be able to tell which games are crud and which are gems. Its these gems that really sell the Wii for me.

Boom Blox was the same...its one of the Wii's greatest achievements, yet it sold horribly because people refuse to give the Wii a try. The real shame is that these companies that make games for the hardcore/mature gamer dont get the publicity they deserve because many see the Wii as a piece of trash.

Co-op is local only which means no sale for me. I play with my friends online. This is an ongoing problem with a lot of the so-called "hard-core" games.

i actually quite like the rail shooters, and they fit right in on the wii.

To me the Wii is a system you play when you have people over, or just want to couch co-op with someone.

Looks like a cool game, I still need to play Dead Space on the 360 though lol.

Another thing to remember is the fall rush. I know my wallet is still empty. I wonder how this game would have done in, say, May?

maybe better, maybe worse since no hardcore games have sold well on wii.I am however not sure if those past 'hardcore' wii games have been pitted during busy holiday seasons though.

Regarding the sales data of this game however...All I can say is for shame....for shame...

Not that I classify Mario Kart as a "hardcore" game but it is online and I love it. Monster Hunter Tri is also set to be an online game. The Wii is capable of a lot more than the developers are doing with it.

on wii owners for not buying this. I know it probably doesn't fit the wii demographic (im certain of it), but this is a great game worth owning. This is the prime reason I got a wii about a couple months ago.Well dead space and others such a muramasa.

I'm a wii owner, and I feel fine about not buying it. I will buy games if they make games I want to buy at a price I'm willing to pay.

well thats fine for you. I'm sure you will love the price drop this game is soon to get. Assuming your even interested in this.

But In my own opinion I think the quality of this game (and the dead space franchise in general) far exceeds what we come to expect for just a mere arcade style rail shooter.

Dead Space extraction is one lengthy experiance with a good amount of replayability and great production values That I gladly paid $50 bucks for.

$50 us is the same as £25, but here it costs £40, thats $80 us.

Price aside, I'm not really interested as you said.
