Re: Call of Duty: World at War
I'm looking forward to this game, especially for the 2 player co-op offline splitscreen gameplay.

Re: Call of Duty: World at War
I was just talking with some online friends the other day how I would have loved to have co-op in COD4 so this announcement is quite pleasing to my ears. However, would people really give up on COD4 for this game based on Treyarchs reputation?

Re: Call of Duty: World at War
No co-op is why I didn't buy COD4. I liked COD3 so if its just as good as it was with split-screen added, then I will buy it.

Re: Call of Duty: World at War
I've got this one coming as a rental from GameFly. Let me know if anyone is interested in campaign co-op. I doubt I'll play much (if any) of it out of co-op, so I'd appreciate the extra troops!

Re: Call of Duty: World at War
The zombie mode is wonderful.... the CoD games are just unreal. They really upped the ante with the gore this time around.

Anyone else trying this one soon? Buying or renting, I'm hoping to see a few more folks here to help out on co-op campaign in the next few days...

Should have a few minutes tonight to try it out and get the basics down before y'all get online. The wife will be out of the house, kids will be in bed, and I will get some quality 360 time!! Looking forward to it!

Re: Call of Duty: World at War
I'm going to go ahead and double post. We played some good co-op last night! Jim, his brother Nate, Nick, and his friend were all among our soldiers for the evening. Jim introduced me to the first few levels and we did the "competitive co-op" mode. This was a fun little mode that encourages friendly competition between the players, awarding points for headshots, grenade kills, etc and multipliers for successive kills, multiple kills at once, and so on.
I don't know about longevity for the game. I think the perks you unlock are only good for vs/multiplayer, which is no good for me. The 4-player co-op was fun, but you don't get credit for completing the level so you don't get those achievements. That's just cheap in my book. No unique classes or skills, so its a lot like Halo 3 in that its the same as the single player campaign with extra guys thrown in. The cut scenes aren't different and are just weird sometimes considering they're from a single-player perspective. I look forward to doing more, but so far I'm really glad its just a rental.
All in all we had a blast until around 11PM CST when apparently Live booted everyone at once! I couldn't sign on again, but in about 5 minutes xbox.com was back up and I could see that no one was on Live.

Re: Call of Duty: World at War
The more i play of the single player, the less I like it.
The Call of Duty formula needs some serious changes, the artificial difficulty is just stupid.
It's all infinite respawns and grenade spams unless you move up.
I really hope Infinity Ward changes things up a bit for 5, or else I'm just going to play it co-op...assuming it has co-op.

I put mine back in the mail to GameFly today. Not just cause my 360 RRoD'd, but I was just tired of the game play. Who thought having endless guys charging you was a good idea? Seriously, that really cheapened it for me. Bummer too, I really wanted to like it.

Seriously, that really cheapened it for me. Bummer too, I really wanted to like it. Hmmm... we see it as a target rich environment! But the guys I play with are not serious gamers... we just like to play and kill and have fun doing so. They usually have games set on easier settings, and I doubt any of us have played thru a game on singleplayer to the end. It's all about the co-op coordination and fun for us. In fact, it would be fun to only have us on the game with no AI on our side! I get tired of being pushed out in the open my my AI cohorts when they run up to my cover spot and there's only room for one... or being blocked from running away from one of the many grenades by an AI cohort (who doesn't seem to be hurt by the same grenade!) Altho this is one someone will make it thru (I think I got nominated when I took a break to refill my drink ) to the end since we want the zombies... And L4D does kinda the same thing... just sit in one area of the map without moving and more zombies just keep showing up. Target rich environment! We take turns running out to get puked on by the boomer just to bring them in for the kill...

Re: Call of Duty: World at War
Anybody else furious about not being able to save in split screen co-op? My girlfriend and I played for three hours, got far, then shut it down for Thanksgiving with family... when we came back to our game it saved nothing. NOTHING!
We played another couple hours of from the beginning, thinking we didn't save right. Nope, there simply is no save for split screen co-op.
Why would the development team make a Bad Call like this?
We are out $60 bucks now because I didn't save the receipt, assuming we would have a satisfying TRUE CO-OP experience.
I am so angry and disappointed. And why was this not mentioned on this sight of all places??? I think that is a pretty significant detail.

You must have missed our co-op review and our last Co-Opticast, wherein we discussed this. It is unfortunate, but the developers have their reasons, I suppose. At least it's not like Castle Crashers, where if you skip a level while playing with a friend who has gotten farther than you, you lose all progress beyond that level...

Re: Call of Duty: World at War
Even worse than no save game in co-op... I know that I'm not the only one this has happened to, although I don't see all that many reports about it yet....
Several times, my wife or I played through multiple single player levels so that we could unlock them and play split screen on those levels. Without warning, the levels would lock up again as if we hadn't started the single player game.
We thought, ok, if one of us finishes the campaign, that won't happen. So, she spent quite a few hours, finished the single player campaign (unlocking zombie mode). At that point, I copied the save game to a memory unit, just in case.
We played for two or three evenings and then - no levels open. No problem, since I'd saved a "good" copy of the save game. I copied that save game back to the hard drive. No luck - the levels are all still locked. Achievements show that she completed the campaign, but no levels are open and zombie mode is gone.
I called Activision and they were no help at all.
I'd have no serious problem with this if an unlock code were available. When you pay $60 for a game, you should be able to play the game. I don't mind having to hit goals to unlock something, but there better be a way around it if a bug like this shows up.
Anyway, if this happens to you, please report it to Activision. They don't acknowledge a problem, but I see on the Call of Duty forums that it DOES happen to others.
It is a great coop game - if you can play it.

Re: Call of Duty: World at War
I was a little disappointed about how co-op is handled. I guessed I was looking for a more familiar experience such as Rainbow Six, Vegas 2 and Gears of War. I expected the XP payout system would be different, and that the story would follow a pattern. Oh well.
Graphics are superb. The multiplayer is intense, as well as the solo campaign, which is pretty tough, too.
