Post Noob questions
Hi Folks,

I'm looking for PC coop games that can be played offline because of poor internet connection. We have been burned in the past, buying games that promised multiplayer coop, but actually needed to access the internet. Drat!

How do I avoid this happening again, using Co-Optimus games info? For example, what exactly does "Number of Players Offline" mean, as opposed to "Number of Players via LAN"?

How can I determine if a game can be played coop on a LAN, without needing any internet access?

Game on!

Let me put it another way...does "Number of Players Offline" mean that's the number of players that can play by LAN without being connected to the internet?

...thinking about it, that can't be right...H&D Sabre Squadron lists "Number of Players Offline" as zero, but I know that this can definately be played offline by LAN. So that can't be it. What does "Number of Players Offline" mean exactly? Is it directly related to "Local Co-Op" or something?

Can I assume that "Number of Players via LAN" refers to LAN play that does not depend on internet access?

Offline = Same Console/Computer
LAN = LAN

Hopefully that helps.

Perhaps 'number of local players' may be clearer?

Ah I see. Thanks for the clarification.

So do any games listed (on Co-Optimus) as LAN-playable need internet access? Like Steam games for example? Although if I recall right, there is a way to play even Steam games offline if you are willing to jump through a bunch of technical hoops.

Incidently, I think the Steam system is irritating. If you buy a stand-alone game (not a MMORPG or something), it should be yours to use, without relying on constant verification that it's yours.

I found it less enjoyable playing Company of Heroes and Empire Total War, knowing that I could only play them with Big-Brother-Steam's say-so.

We don't really track that data.

Almost every new game requires internet access.
At the back-cover there should be in very small letters a note that this game requires internet access.

I know one old games that does have a co-op mod and works perfectly well in LAN :D .
Elite Force II
Co-op Modification

That looks great! Thanks for the tip Chrissstrahl.
It appears you can play through the campaign in coop with the mod!

If anyone has played any other really good, older coop games that don't need online access, let me know!
