Rumor - Call of Duty: Space Ops Next In The Series

Postby ShadokatRegn » Thu Nov 11, 2010 8:52 am

Anyone else kind-of looking forward to Call of Duty's Roughnecks?

After the release of Call of Duty: Black Ops (without campaign co-op - again), we thought it was time to start looking to the future of the series to see what comes next. It sounds like the developer Sledgehammer games took that idea one step further and wants to see the next Call of Duty title literally set in the future. In space to be exact.

I'd be down for this for sure. Even if it's just a little bit past the Ghost Recon style of "future warfare."

don't we have enough futuristic "space marine" games? i think the CoD series should stick closer to what they know (past, present, and near future) and improve on those... i'll even help them out with a perfect example of an improvement: make co-op in the campaign a standard feature!!!

i thought you were joking. it can't be set too far in the future, not when its main xbox rival is halo.

Kat's Starship Troopers example is spot-on for what I'd like to see in a game like this. No holographic sights, no personal shields...just helmets and assault rifles.

I honestly, am sick of COD. Yes I could rant on about why, but I'd rather not.

Anyways, this sounds to mix it up a little, and I like that.

If this were Starship Troopers style, I'd actually play more than a few minutes of the next Call of Duty. There, I said it.

I can see this happening all over the interwebs...

CoD Fanboy: "CoD in Space! Awesome! This will be the best game ever made!"

Normal Gamer: "So you'll try Halo?"

CoD Fanboy: "What are you talking about!?!? Halo SUCKS!"

@aeiah: Activision is probably doing that on purpose to try and "steal" Halo's audience. Course, MS won't be their best friend anymore if they do that so, whatever. Personally, I haven't bought a CoD game since the first one. For last several years I have been of the opinion that Activision has been making the same game over and over with very minor changes. This looks to change that, and that's a good thing. I still won't buy it because I hate Activision. But I likely won't buy the next Halo either because I'm mad at MS for taking the franchise from Bungie. I know it's about politics and making money. But everyone who creates an IP should get to keep the rights (or be able to sell them). None of this "we fronted the money to produce it so the property is ours to abuse" stuff that Activision and MS are so fond of doing.

That would be because Halo is nothing like Call of Duty. To even compare them in that context is really thin.

Don't you know that all Space Marine games are the same? :p I know it's a stretch since the gameplay is so different, but I've seen plenty of things that would indicate that people are tired of space marines in general due to Halo, Gears of War, Dawn of War, etc.(showing that there's at least something that compares them); and none of them are really anything like each other.

I see; you're talking genres. Be more specific, daggummit!

and they're making me rich. the demand is pretty high on the black market these days. who knew?

anyway, when i said we have enough space marine type games and that they should stick with what they're good at, that was meant as a compliment. the CoD series has been amazing (despite the lack of a key ingredient) and i'd hate to see it stray too far from its winning formula.

that said, if they do go this route, i would love to see a starship troopers type game... as long as there's a tent scene and a shower scene.
