I think it's worth noting that the controls are single-stick only; this is not a twin-stick shooter. I think that's funky, but I'm going to give the game a shot anyway, on Vita if possible.

It definitely is. So long as you are used to controls similar to Metal Slug/ Gunstar Heroes you will enjoy it.

I like that there is an option to purchase nuts with real world moneys. I didn't give in to the temptation yet, but I'm sure that as my character levels up and some really great loot becomes available, I might be willing to piddle away a buck in order to upgrade.

Edit:
At Hurricane:
I was a bit taken back at first when I read that the right stick was not utilized in the game, but once I started up the first level I was quite comfortable with using the face buttons.

I was playing with one of the QA testers last night, and it was so awesome, cuz if I have one complaint- it's that certain things are not explained well enough (or at all), so he was able to answer most all of my question. Anyway, I am loving this game so far and HIGHLY recommend it! =D

I tried the demo very briefly yesterday, and while I realize I wasn't playing the game in its proper co-op form, I had kind of mixed feelings.

I don't grok the rationale for using one stick for both aiming and movement. It seems like a pointless hearkening back to more primitive, less functional controllers of yore. (I never played Metal Slug or Gunstar Heroes or indeed any old single-stick console games; oddly enough, the PS3 is my first console.) And on a big screen, the graphics suck. They're soft and muddy, and I actually had to check on my TV to make sure it was even receiving a high-def signal at all.

The waves of enemies and the general attitude seemed fun, but, well, I don't know. I guess if my PSN friends like it and plan to stick with it, I'll dive in.

Just found out there's no Vita support. Bummer...guess this one gets a pass for now.

Sounds like a good game. I've got to check the demo out this week and see if this one is for me.

@macro - I was feeling the same way until about 3/4 of the way through the first level. The control scheme started to click and I started enjoying it more. I replayed the first level once I bought a better weapon and it was great. I would recommend sticking it out. I only tried the demo so far, but I think I am going to end up buying it.

Wouldnt jumping and stuff be a bit awkward if it was twin stick?

Anyway, a few questions if you dont mind.

How are local co-op upgrades handled/saved? Tied to player one or to individual players accounts?

Also, can you combo co-op with just one gold account on xbox? Is there any consequence of doing so (like cant save player twos progress or something.)

Also, I just wanted to say to cubninja, I appreciate that you always fix the link in the first post. The forum is my gateway to the main site, so I always appreciate that little detail. I liked the review too. Nice work!

The link generator automatically works when features are posted, just not when news posts go up.

Awesome game, picked it up with my reward points last night and played a little bit with Smurph and Cub.

It is alot deeper than your standard side scrolling shooter. Highly recommend at the low low price of 800 points.

Worth mentioning that the PC client is still not out yet. If you are like me and looking forward to this game - hold your breath, they promise a release soon!

Just finished a four player session last night. Had a blast. This game is a must buy for any fan of side scrolling shooters OR in need of the perfect co-op game.

There's no local co-op in this. It only single-player offline.

It doesn't even have any gamepad control option!

I was able to play the game with two players locally. You sure your controllers were fully charged?

He's talking about the PC version.

I went ahead and picked it up on XBLA. The controls are actually pretty easy to get used to. Pretty generic shooter, but what's not to like about that? I'm still irritated that this isn't available for Vita or PSP. This is perfect for either.
