Discussion of E3 2012: Resident Evil 6 Hands-On Co-Op Impressions

Postby Cubninja » Mon Jun 11, 2012 7:30 am

Resident Evil 6 had the largest presence in the Capcom booth. After swooning over the new design of Dante in Devil May Cry and checking out the big mech in Lost Planet 3, Locke and I had the opportunity to dig right into some two player co-op. Resident Evil 6 boasts three separate campaigns and we were able to sample two of them.

While on the forums I type hard and fast. Please don't hold my typos against me. I'm trying to use my meager powers for good. If my advice gets you killed, I apologize in advance.

Now my bro and I just need to play RE5... which is still sitting in his TV cabinet.

I was very surprised by how well RE6 played. The most drastic change was the UI, which has been totally revamped and doesn't hold you up in the middle of the action.

Controls sound good. Also: commas!

Game looks great! I think I'm most excited to play as Jake Muller, because I seen a developer in an interview say that Jake has a bunch of hand-to-hand combat moves that no one else has.

I can't believe I'm actually getting cautiously excited to play a Capcom game — and a Resident Evil title, to boot! I'm glad they've finally ditched the stupid deliberately borked "tank" controls.

It's hard for me to say if I like them dinking with the tank controls. Yes, it was unrealistic. BUT, it definitely made combat more tense. If it turns into a 3rd person shooter and lacks the tension, it won't feel like resident evil. Since I never really played RE5 in single player, I loved that game (great coop IMO).
