Co-Op Classics: TMNT IV: Turtles in Time

Earlier this week, you, the Co-Optimus readers, voted among three games to be the topic of this weeks Classic Co-Op.  The result was a tie!  So, I was forced to make a decision myself, and I voted for Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles IV: Turtles in Time.  Next week, we'll take a look at Altered Beast, I promise.  However, the cheesy voice samples and awesome weredragon action will have to wait.  For now, our focus is on an iconic co-op title, and one of, if the THE best TMNT game of all time.

Dedicated Servers for 360 Version of Left 4 Dead

The crew at 1up have spent some time at Valve's offices playing Left 4 Dead. I know, I'm jealous, too. The crew has played the game and walked away with some interesting information, such as the fact that two of the game's levels are based on real-life cities (Philadelphia and Pittsburg). However, a more interesting tidbit of information was revealed to them. According to 1up, Left 4 Dead will have dedicated servers for the 360 version.

I just wanted to let everyone know that Co-Op Classics will go up Saturday, not Friday, this week.  The wife is out scrapbooking and us guys in the family are gonna beat Castle Crashers tonight before bed, no matter what!  Until then check out all the news from the past few busy days! ...

Mercenaries Pump Gas (For Free!) in Los Angeles

We've been covering Mercenaries 2: World in Flames for some time now, and the wait is almost over.  To celebrate the launch of the game, EA is running a unique and quite memorable promotion.  They have taken over an entire gas station in Los Angeles, and are giving away free fuel to promote Mercs 2's release!  You can even get a mercenary to pump your gas for you, though given the games subtitle, and the above screenshot, you might be risking turning your car into a giant fireball by doing so.  (No real mercenaries will be featured, just actors, but still, it's cool.)  You have to admire the marketing folks who came up with this one.  If you live in LA, hop on over and check it out before they run the pumps dry!  The live feed for the promotion is featured here, and the full press release is available after the break.

Stardock Drafts "The Gamer's Bill of Rights"

In this election season, political fervor has gone through the roof.  I know I personally love to turn to gaming as an escape from all the hullabaloo.  However, sometimes, politics and gaming mix to great effect.  You may recall our coverage of the "Co-Op Bill of Rights" earlier this year.  A similar document has been created by the folks at Stardock.  The focus here is not on co-op, but rather on PC gaming.  Without further delay:

Nevermind Never Officially Confirmed for Rock Band DLC

If you are like me, one of the things you were most excited about was when Harmonix announced Nevermind from Nirvana as a full downloadable ablum on Rock Band.  There's just one problem, Harmonix never said such a thing. In a day and age where news is reported in split second blog posts, a lot of times things get taken out of context.  Rock Band 2 was on display at a certain social gathering tonight, and Harmonix Community Manager Sean Baptiste was there.  According to Baptiste, they never specifically announced Nevermind would be available, it was simply given as an example of classic albums that could appear on the service.  According to him a press release or any other official material was never put out.  But fret not, he said just because it was never officially confirmed doesn't mean it can't happen.   So it looks like you and four of your buddies won't be jamming out to the best Nirvana song ever (that's Drain You in case you didn't know) - but there's still hope.

Duke Nukem 3D Preview Confirms 8 Player Co-Op

TeamXbox has posted their hands on preview with the XBLA version of Duke Nukem 3D, coming next month.  The most important information from the preview is the confirmation of 8 player co-op.  Yes, eight buff dudes with guns spouting awesome one-liners can play at the same time!  The wonders of modern technology!  However, there's much more than just that to keep your interest.  The Tivo-like replay system is particularly innovative, allowing players to rewind from a death and play back from any point on a level.  These replays can be saved and shared online, too.  I foresee lots of poring over the leaderboards for awsome playthroughs in my future.  Of course, the game also features the requisite huge guns, wacky enemies, and strippers.  Achievements for the game are listed, as well, and you can check them out here at Co-Optimus after the break.

Wanna Watch a 10 Second Tidbit of Aliens: Colonial Marines?

If you're anything like me, you love the Aliens series of movies.  However, the most recent entries aren't nearly as cool as the first two (or three depending on who you talk to).  It's only natural, then, to be curious about upcoming co-op shooter Aliens: Colonial Marines.  Perhaps in video game form, the Aliens franchise can return to its former glory.  After watching a video showing a quick ten seconds of footage from the game, we think that there is, indeed, hope.  Shacknews has the video, featuring a nice burst of acid blood and the classic handheld motion detector.  Let's hope Gearbox, the developer, does this game up right and we don't have to nuke them all from orbit (it's the only way to make sure).

This Week in Co-op: Castle Crashers

Well, I bet most of you know that Castle Crashers came out today. Like many of you, I booted up my 360 as soon as I woke up. However, I had to wait a while to play the game with my buddies. Sometimes, you just have to go to class (or work). However, once I was done with classes, I asked my buddy to join me for some Castle Crashers. Let me tell you, it was worth the wait.

Left 4 Dead Cinematic Trailer Features Zombies, Blood (Duh)

Gamevideos has posted the latest trailer for the highly promising zombie title, Left 4 Dead.  This trailer features a cinematic from the game.  It may not be gameplay, but it sure will get your blood pumping and likely increase your anticipation for Left 4 Dead's release.  I particularly liked the huge sprays of zombie blood from headshots and of course the enormous hulking zombie was awesome too!  The video is available for your viewing convenience after the break!

Castle Crashers Connections... erm, Crashing?

Today is the day for the long awaited Castle Crashers for XBLA.  I know Co-Optimus' own Broodax has been especially looking forward to this game, as have many of our readers.  It seems the launch hasn't been flawless, though.  Many eager co-op gamers have been unable to connect online.  Xbox360Fanboy has a poll up which as of the time of this writing, shows that about 15% of voters had some connectivity issues while playing the game over Live.  Is it possible that the game is so good, too many people are trying to connect at once and the interwebs broke in half?  How about you, Co-Optimus readers?  Anyone here had issues trying to play the game with a friend?
