Beyond Co-Op, May 24th to May 30th
The stories for this week:
Hut, hut, hike! ShadokatRegn passes to BApenguin, Touchdown Co-optimus! After 9 installments, Madden NFL 10 will finally have online co-op! Although the spirit of football is competitive, it's refreshing to finally see co-op open up in a popular sports game. Game developers talk about the decision to add co-op to the long-running Madden franchise, emphasizing playing with others and having fun instead of competition with the usual trash talk.
You would think E3 was this week with all of the trailers we've seen flying around the web already, and it's time for another highly anticipated Co-op trailer! Marvel Ultimate Alliance 2 is now sharing with us this rather amazing video. Gametrailers shows us how a lot of the fusion powers will look with different characters, as well as a few new heroes that may, or may not be playable.
It's the weekend before E3 and we've already been hit with an onslaught of news. But that won't stop the staff from trying to play games!
All sorts of pre-E3 information is rolling out all over the internet, and we've got some information about the Guitar Hero franchise for you.
You won't just drive, you'll speed to get the latest Burnout ParadiseDLC on June 11th! We in the co-op business tend to appreciate large scale co-op, and Burnout Paradise fits the bill. For those unaware, Burnout Paradiseis one of our favorite co-op games to recommend, with free add-ons or tons of DLC to keep you racing, crashing, spinning, and flipping through the streets of Paradise City. Big Surf Island is the latest DLC pack, andThe Burnout team at Criterion Games is as excited about this stuff as we are!
Upon pressing play for the new Dead Space Extraction trailer, I was greeted with some gentle guitar riffs. Right away I knew this trailer was going to be all kinds of awesome. Why? Those were no ordinary guitar riffs, oh no, that was the gentle rocking song of Mogwai.
For Co-Op Casual Friday this week, we take a look at one of the most beloved kids' franchises of all time. The TV show has been running for a decade and a half, and the toy line is one of the all time best sellers. Mixing martial arts, colorful costumes, crazy weapons, and my favorite, giant robots, Power Rangers is a lot of fun. Power Rangers video games have ranged from okay to terrible, but the most recent title, released for the PS2, Power Rangers Super Legends, is easily the best. The real draw for Power Rangers Super Legends is the fact that it includes dozens of different characters pulled from all the various teams. It is the Power Rangers equivalent of a Justice League/Avengers crossover. From the original Red and Pink Rangers to the current (at the time) Operation Overdrive squad, most fan favorites are here. My personal pick, the SPD Shadow Ranger (who is a dog headed alien!), appears, but the most popular Ranger ever, Tommy, is notably absent. Many of the gigantic mechanized Megazords from the shows appear as well. Fans of the show will find plenty to love here.
50 Cent: Blood on the Sand was one of those games a lot of folks overlooked, not because it didn't look fun, but because it may have just been too much for the money. Thankfully Amazon comes to the rescue - today only - they have the Xbox 360 version of the game for $39.98!
Epic has announced that Unreal Tournament 3 Black will be available for free this weekend on Steam. Unreal Tournament 3 Black is the full version of UT3 along with the free Titan pack. In total you have enhancements which include new maps and environments, the Titan mutator, the Greed and Betrayal gametypes, the Stealthbender vehicle, weapons, deployables, and characters. The game also provides 50 Steamworks Achievements.
One week before E3, and we're already catching shiny new trailers poking their heads out at us. What could possibly be more shiny than an early peek at White Knight Chronicles? This PS3 exclusive trailer was leaked early, hopefully meaning Sony has a few tasty tricks up its sleeve for the official presentation at E3. Some delicious details on Co-op perhaps? Maybe a hands-on demonstration to get some legitimate previews out there to read?
A lot of co-op PC gaming is not only done online, but at LAN parties. If you've never experienced one of these Mountain Dew laden events, well do yourself a favor and find a local one. Of course it's not easy lugging your desktop PC across down for a little multiplayer gaming, so the best thing to do is find yourself a slick gaming laptop.
