We've been getting a slow drip of material about Double Dragon Neon for the last couple months, so it was good to finally be able to put some hands-on time with it. For those who need a refresher, it's a throwback to the classic brawler, complete with absurdly neon color palette and a really strong 1980s aesthetic.
Skylanders fans, get ready for more adventures, more figures, and less money in your wallet. Skylanders Giants will introduce over 40 new figures to your plastic powerhouse stable, and you need them all. I spoke at length with an Activision rep while playing the new Skylanders title. Here's what I found out:
Deep Silver have announced a sequel to one of last year's greatest co-op games, Dead Island. The new game is called Dead Island Riptide and it's in development for PC and consoles by TechLand. Other than that we have absolutely no other details about the game, but the publisher promises a lot more details this summer. We're guessing the big reveal will be at Gamescom in Germany later this year. Obviously because of the late reveal, don't expect the game to be available this year, but instead move it into an already crowded 2013.
Today, High Moon studios announced Transformers: Fall of Cybertron would be bringing back War for Cybertron's cooperative Escalation mode. This is awesome news, because that means we can start covering it again! I was able to speak with Activision's JD Livergood, the associate producer for the latest Transformers game. We discussed the revamped Escalation mode while I got some hands-on time with a few single player missions.
There's a new game on the horizon from the developers of Tropico, Haemimont Games, that should be on turn-based strategy fans radars. It's called Omerta: City of Gangsters and it puts players in the role of a "the boss" - an immigrant on the rise in a mafia like family set in Atlantic City during the 1920s.
This morning I attended the Nintendo Press Conference, which was mostly business as usual as far as their press showings go, but with the WiiU coming out this fall, the bulk of the show was dedicated to upcoming titles for it. Luckily, it seems people who purchase the system will have some strong co-op waiting for them at or near launch. Let's go through what I saw.
2012 sure seems like the year of the action RPG, because hot on the heels of Diablo 3 (and before Torchlight 2) is a new entry on the 3DS called Heroes of Ruin. From what I played it'll be a solid entry in the genre, though it was a little on the generic side.
Many were surprised when Halo 4 announced it would be dropping fan favorite Firefight mode in favor of a new co-op mode called Spartan Ops. I got some hands on time with the mode at a private event during E3 2012.
Atlus today announced a new game for the 3DS called Code of Princess. It's a beat em with RPG elements that reminds me a bit of Dungeon Fighter Online.
Atlus have announced a sequel to Zeno Clash, a unique game that saw co-op added in its 2010 iteration on XBLA. The new game, titled Zeno Clash II, drops players back into the beautiful and rich world of Zenozoik as they experience this first person brawler.
Sony brought the games, games, and more games but none of them seemed to be on the Vita. Nick travelled across town to see what Sony had in store for their E3 2012 press conference. Check out the predictions and aftermath in the video below:
