Our Weekend In Gaming: "Hey, Wake Up, September Ended" Edition

September is the beginning of teh crazy crowded fall gaming season, and it's hard to believe we've had more than four weeks of blockbuster releases to enjoy already.  Gears 3 is again hugely popular, as are betas for second sequels of the Diablo and Battlefield variety.  We also look forward to the soul-crushing challenge of Dark Souls.  Oh yeah, and a good old fashioned LAN party is on the agenda, too.

XBLA - Serious Sam HD the Second Encounter $5 Today Only

As you surely known by now, there’s a massive Xbox Live Arcade game sale going on this week that’s open to all Xbox Live members, even the less fortunate ones who only have Silver accounts. The rumors of a one-day only sale have proven true as well (High five, Samoza!), with four XBLA titles receiving extra special discounts today (Friday, September 30). Only one of those games supports co-op, but it’s worth a look: Serious Sam HD: The Second Encounter is 66% off the regular price.

The Cursed Crusade to Have a Co-Op Demo, New Video

Is it just me, or is The Cursed Crusade starting to look like a pretty good game?  I know we've had our fair share of medieval heroes clad in white robes, but something about this game appeals to me... Could it be the brutal finishing moves?  The split screen or online co-op?  What about the most informative trailer, ever?  All of this sounds good, but that's not what's filling my Q-zone...  Ah, there it is.  The $40 dollar price tag.  The more I see of this game the less it looks like bargain bin fodder.  Check out the video and let us know what you think.

New Trailer for LOTR: War in the North Delves into Co-Op

This trailer for The Lord of the Rings: War in the North is, as they say, "doing it right."  This is an accompaniment to the Power of Three trailer we brought you earlier this week.  The developers discuss some of the benefits of co-op, including some of the character abilities as well as a challenge mode.  Looks like Snowblind built some extra replay-ability into their latest action RPG.

Do you like Archers and killing stuff? Then the Demon Hunter has you covered.

Diablo 3 Co-Op Character Focus: The Demon Hunter

Rounding off our class coverage of the Diablo 3 beta is the Demon Hunter. The Demon Hunter is a pretty solid blend of Diablo 2’s Amazon and Assassin classes. She specializes in bows and crossbows as well as a variety of traps and trick shots. We’ll delve more into the specific skills later. First, let’s talk basic mechanics.

Co-Op Monthly Round-Up For September 2011

Don't look now, but September is just about over.  What a wild ride this month was!  It all started on the 6th with a triple co-op threat of Dead Island, Resistance 3 and Space Marine (despite still not having the co-op DLC). Dead Island was the clear winner for the month in terms of popularity.  We also had two games earn our Editors' Choice award - Gears of War 3 and the aforementioned Dead Island.

Eurogamer Expo 2011 - Beyond Co-op

Amongst the various co-op games available at Eurogamer Expo 2011 I was able to grab a few minutes with some upcoming single player experiences.  This Beyond Co-op preview will take a quick gander at Nintendo’s line up at the show, Joe Danger: The Movie, Ridge Racer Unbound and some Retro action.
