Beyond Co-Op - Talisman Review

Talisman is a legendary board game, one that has been available for decades. Dubbed "The Magical Quest Game", this classic was first released in the 1980s, and has been through several publishers and revisions since then. The most recent version of the board game was released by Fantasy Flight in 2007. An adaptation of the game, the Talisman Digital Edition, has recently been released for PC, via Steam, with a retail version, the Talisman Digital Collector's Edition, also available. The Steam version will be considered for review today.

I would love to play this game, but probably won't for the same reason I avoid eating at Hooters. From: Dragon's Crown: New Videos and Screens

1. The game is actually harder with more players, since there are less turns with optimized cards than there would be in say a two player game. There are easy rules for tweaking difficulty to suit your own tastes.

2. Co-op is the main focus; the heroes play against the villain deck, and that controls whether the game is won or lost. If the players do win, you can determine who was the "greatest" hero by adding up the point value of the villains the players KOed and any bystanders rescued.

3. Tough question. You might check out http://www.vassalengine.org/ but it has a steep learning curve. From: Tabletop Co-Op: Legendary
