CCV: The Hype Machine.

Interesting, a blog theme based on something I posted about a day or 2 ago. So, I can expand and hopefully clarify something. Firstly I have to define my terms. To me, hype is not popularity. To me hype is deliberate, corperate fueled. Type hype into google and you get this defintion "Excessive or intensive publicity; exaggerated claim...

How Co-op Goes Bad

I love me some single player. I like co-op. However, while there are many mistakes SP games can make, when co-op goes bad, it really goes bad. This happens in various ways. To many players- Co-op can become a real mess when there to many players. Lets face it, Sven Co-op, 16 player mod for Left 4 Dead 2, all bad. People keep blocking each o...

Kane and Lynch 2: Dog Days Review

It's easy to slam Kane and Lynch 2 because of it's rough history. As such those who already know it or just want to see how this game stands on it's own can skip the next paragraph. I should also mention I played this game in co-op and on PC. The whole thing started with Freedom Fighters. An underrated classic of a game on the P...

That One Scene and Sex in Games

Some of you already know I don't like Moviebobs Game Overthinker and Extra Credits. For those who don't know, Extra Credits is a series of rants by a group of college students with nebulous ties to the games industry. (eg. One is a 'graphics designer', but that could be making the game graphics, or designing a letter head) T...

The Reason Learning is Impossable

Like most people, my dreams were shattered by the cold hammer of reality. Unlike most, I knew I had the ability to do it. When I set out to learn programing for my games I was told that it was "Impossable to learn programing from a book". I said that was bollocks, that the only thing you cant learn from a book is how to read. Over time...

I agree completely. Fifa is still pretty much the same game as the original PS1 game albeit with minor changes. Smackdown went to hell, as did MMA games. It's telling that the best wwf/wwe game is still No Mercy on N64. UFC 2010 made a bit of a comeback, but how much of that is the rising popularity of the real sport?

However, while annuized games are not always good, and are usually bad, they don't have to be. Collin McRae, despite the man being dead and the games coming out every year or 2 since 1999, are still a huge hit over here. In fact, their main downfall recently seems to be due to them trying to make it appeal to Americans. However, they keep the quality up. I'm not a fan of gears, I think the games are ok. The assumption that it would kill the series is, imo, a bad call. From: Epic VP Talks About an Annualized Gears of War

Sorry to blow out the burning torches of rage here but while most annual series are bad, Ratchet and Clank is awesome. 5 games at one a year, all fantastic. The Assassins Creed games are still popular. They are yearly. Telltale churns out a new point and click adventure every month, and they are pretty good Im told.

I should also point out Valve. 1 game a year since Half Life 2, all FPS, all in the same engine. Had they kept on time we would have had a half life every 6 months. From: Epic VP Talks About an Annualized Gears of War
