First, the good news: A Virus Named TOM will be making its way to PlayStation Vita and PlayStation Mobile devices (Xperia) this summer. The bad news is that co-op is looking unlikely for the Vita edition, though developer Misfits Attics is hopeful something can be worked out for the tablet and phone versions. Even without co-op, the portable releases will come with new levels and some new features, so there's no reason to be too bummed out.

A Virus Named TOM Gets Free Holiday Themed DLCNick Puleo

The folks at Misfits Attic have been in the festive mood and decided to create some holiday themed DLC for A Virus Named TOM, their four player co-op action puzzler.  The DLC adds a snowy effect to the game as well as a good ol fashion scavenger hunt.

The hunt for Steam achievements will each unlock a piece of an outfit for TOM to wear, including a spiffy looking Santa hat.  There's a few hints on the official website, but the first person to find all of the hidden pieces can win a prize!  The DLC is completely free and available now via Steam.

And don't forget - A Virus Named TOM is up for Indie Co-Op Game of the Year.  So vote!

See the Big Picture in A Virus Named TOM, 75% Off Right NowNick Puleo

Steam's Big Picture mode officially launches today on the service, with several games enhancing themselves for the experience.  One such game is the four player co-op puzzler, A Virus Named TOM, which features couch co-op play out of the box.  Since couches are in the living room, and Steam's Big Picture mode is designed for living room PCs, this seems like a perfect match.

To celebrate and promote, Misfits Attic has put the game on sale for 75% - making it just $2.50.  Or you can snag the soundtrack edition of the game for $2.99.  If you want to see what the game is all about check out our full co-op review, where we gave the game a 4.5 out of 5.

PAX 2012: Interview with Misfits Attic, Creators of A Virus Named TomNick Puleo

One of my favorite reasons for going to trade shows is getting to meet folks I email or chat with on a regular basis via the internet.  One such person is Tim Keenan of Misfits Attic, the creators of the recent co-op puzzler A Virus Named Tom.  I've been corresponding with Tim for the better part of the last two years now, so getting to meet him in person at PAX 2012 was definitely high on the list of things to do.

We chatted with Tim and his wife Holly about the game, what it's like to be an indie dev at the biggest gaming exhibition in the United States, and what they planned on doing post show.  Check out the interview below.

A Virus Named TOM Has a Special PAX Sale, Kickstart its Online Co-OpJason Love

The gaming community focused Penny Arcade Expo (or PAX) kicks off this Friday, and a few of our staff and our favorite developers will be there. One developer in particular, Misfits Attic, is making the most of the event by not only attending, but also offering up their cooperative, puzzle-solving gem, A Virus Named TOM, for a special price. For the length of PAX, August 31 to September 3, you can purchase their title for 25% on their website (includes a code for Steam). If you happen to be attending PAX (lucky you), then you can swing by their setup within the Indie Megabooth and get the game for a whopping 50% off!

In addition to that great deal, Misfits Attic is taking a rather unique approach to addressing one of the most common issues with the game: the lack of online co-op. To raise enough funding to add a feature of the game that they just couldn't quite make possible, they're going to turn to the same community that's been asking for it and start a Kickstarter campaign. However, it's not just the online co-op feature that those funds could help implement, it could be more; exactly what, though, is up to you. Before launching a Kickstarter, Misfits Attic is testing the waters a bit to see how much interest there would be in kickstarting a venture like this, and in which features the gaming community would be most interested.

A Virus Named Tom Infecting Steam SoonNick Puleo

Misfits Attic sent us word that their co-op action puzzler, A Virus Named TOM, is now coming to Steam once it's out of beta.  All current pre-orders will be converted to a Steam version.  Sweet!  What's even better?  The plan is for full achievement, stat, leaderboard and possibly even cloud save support.  Huzzah!

The beta version of the game got some updates as well, a new area called Holo-Suit is now selectable.  For co-op players, they've made it easier to play local multiplayer; supporting all gamepads/controllers, up to 3 people on  keyboards, or any combination of the two.  Nice!
