Are you a PC gamer? Do you love third-person shooters? Do you enjoy screaming voice commands into your mic that largely go unheeded by your teammates? Then I've got a game for you! Binary Domain will soon be available on PC. How soon? How about next month? Yes, Binary Domain, which happens to be a very good cover-based shooter, is coming to PC in April. You can pre-order that bad boy on Steam.

Now, you may be thinking to yourself, "But Andrew, didn't you give Binary Domain a 2 out of 5 in Co-Optimus' Co-Op Review? Did I forget to lock the front door?" First of all, don't start a sentence with "but," you philistine. Secondly, the answer to both of those questions is YES! That doesn't change the fact that Binary Domain is actually a pretty good single player game, and raccoons are now in your house. The voice commands are horrible, but in a hilarious kind of way. The co-op mode, "Invasion," is lacking, but the game as a whole is a pretty enjoyable experience. If you're looking for a fun ride featuring gratuitous robot destruction, you could do worse.

Co-Op Release Alert for the Week of 2.27.2012Andrew Gaskill

It's a little slow this week. The only truly new co-op release is a third person shooter.  I'll give you a couple hints, and you see if you can tell me where the game takes place.  Hint #1:  It's set in the future.  Hint #2: Robots.  Hint #3: Said future robots, or "frobots," as I like to call them, are becoming too human.  Hint #4: It's not a Blade Runner game (you wish!).

Did you guess Detroit?  Nah man, it's not Detroit.  It's Japan -Tokyo, to be specific.  Better luck next time.

Binary Domain Demo Drops, Free DLC Will Include Yakuza: Dead Souls MP SkinsAndrew Gaskill

We finally nailed down the co-op mode in Binary Domain a few days ago.  Alas, 'tis but  a horde mode.  Survival/horde modes aren't all bad, assuming the gameplay is tight.  It just so happens you can check out Binary Domain's  gameplay yourself  in a new single player demo.

I played it briefly and was left with mixed feelings.  I thought the shooting was fair and I liked the procedural damage done to the robots, but the squad voice commands were touchy, at best.  The game is focused on commanding AI teammates with your voice, so you can see where that may be a problem.  You can play without the voice commands, but then things begin to get unwieldy.  You'll be doing double duty, holding a shoulder button that toggles voice commands to the face buttons.  The demo is available now on the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3.  If you get a chance to play it, let us know your thoughts in the comments section.

New Trailer Shows Off Binary Domain's Multiplayer, But Where Is the Co-Op?Andrew Gaskill

We have been pondering the features of Binary Domain's co-op mode since last May.  The third person shooter focuses on a robot uprising in (where else?) near-future Tokyo.  The single player campaign features a "Consequence System" where you will give voice commands to your squad mates.  They'll either listen to you or they won't, depending on how much they trust you.  Great.  Sounds like it'll be just like playing a game with a bunch of house cats.  This seems like the perfect opportunity to allow real life human players to join in the fun.

We've played the single player game on more than one occasion, and have yet to nail down the co-op features, even when pumping game reps for information.  This latest video doesn't help at all, but it sure looks cool.  It features some of the mulitplayer versus modes, two different factions, five different team members, and zero co-op information.

Alright. That was cool, but what about the co-op?  We contacted Sega for more information.  A representative quickly replied to our query:

In terms of multiplayer, there are a variety of team-based modes, including old standards like team death match and team survival. There’s one mode, called Invasion, where players must work together to defeat progressively harder waves of robot attackers (a la “Horde” mode). This game mode supports up to four players at a time.

There you have it!  A survival mode.  We'll see how the gameplay holds up when it releases later this month.

Binary Domain will be out on February 28th for the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3.  It will support four player online co-op.

Binary Domain Cutscene UnveiledChristopher Metz

Earlier today, SEGA uploaded a special cutscene from their newest Third-Person Shooter title, Binary Domain, showcasing an extended dialogue and a few, gruesome twists.

Take a quick peek at this latest cutscene, glimpsing at some of the intense storyline this game will bring:

New Binary Domain Trailer Will Rip Your Face Off!Andrew Gaskill

The new trailer for Binary Domain really sets the mood.  We've got people staring longingly into each other's eyes, spiffy music, someone yelling "Nooooooo!," and robot self mutilation.  Plus there's an abundance of gunplay, explosions, and at 1:24, I'm pretty sure a dude is humping a computer.  Sounds like a party to me!

The game looks much sharper than it did at E3.  I'll admit, the trailer has me a little excited.  The co-op missions are supposed to be separate from the main campaign.  Here's hoping they have more substance than a simple survival mode.  You may notice that the release date has been pushed back a week to February 28th.  Them's the breaks.  Binary Domain will be available on the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3.  It will support four player online co-op.

New Trailer for Binary Domain Has ConsequencesAndrew Gaskill

We haven't heard much from Binary Domain since our time with the game at E3.  This new trailer has plenty of gameplay footage, and features the game's "Consequence" system.  Apparently, your AI partners will cop an attitude with you if you ask them to do things that will get them killed.  The game has a unique voice control system which allows you to command your squad mates as you battle to save future Tokyo from psychotic robots.  Who here thought future Tokyo wouldn't have psychotic robots?

Binary Domain will be out on February 14th for the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3.  At E3 the developers said it would support four player online co-op.

E3 2011 - Binary Domain Hands-On and BCD PreviewAndrew Gaskill

I managed to make it into a behind-closed-doors session for Sega's Binary Domain, a third-person squad shooter coming out in early 2012.  The game is set in Japan, the year is 2080.  All you need to know is this: "Robots!  Blast'em!"  Got it?  I don't want to have to explain to you why we're shooting robots during the TechnoHolocaust.  You just better damn well do it.

This was my first experience working with a Japanese translator.  Shockingly, the fact that I've seen Kill Bill, twice, in no way helped me with this interview.  Names were exchanged faster than I could blink.  I wasn't sure who I was speaking with, but I knew they worked on Binary Domain.  I was too polite (nervous) to ask anyone to repeat themselves or ask for a card.  Now for the tough part.  Figuring out if this sucker has co-op.  No small task, as every staff member on Co-Optimus knows, there are plenty of native English speakers who still have no idea what "co-op" means.

It's Man Against Machine In Binary DomainKatrina Pawlowski

It always makes me proud to be a gamer when the "new game" scene gets its hands on a solid game. Not a puzzle game, not a score-based game, not a mindless shooter, but a game with story, machines, and flesh and blood. Binary Domain looks to encourage the use of flesh and blood on the Xbox 360 or PS3, as the machines have taken over - and their intentions aren't so pure after they're granted an ego and emotions. The machines in Binary Domain started off as simple workers, but became a formidable enemy as they take on more and more human traits.

The trailer we've seen tells it pretty well, but reading the note released by the games director, Toshihiro Nagoshi really brings this world to life.

The core concept of this game from the beginning is life; the project code name from the start was in fact "Inochi", which means "life" in Japanese. The most distinctive way of differentiating a creature from a machine is "life". However, we also know that machines can be given a form of life when created by man. Is it possible that the differentiation is becoming less clear and machines are actually becoming more like humans?
