First, aspiring monster hunters will be tasked with taking on a new Master Rank quest revolving around the tracking and slaying of Kulve Taroth, a golden elder dragon.  New hunter and Palico equipment, as well as upgrade materials, are available for those wily enough to do so.  The other new addition comes in the form of the Arch-Tempered Namielle, another elder dragon whose materials can be used to construct new hunter equipment.  The update trailer lets you see these colossal foes and their associated equipment in action:

Monster Hunter World: Iceborne News SummaryMatthew Squaire

Last month, the PC version had the Safi'jiiva Siege added along with Awakened weapons and the Stygian Zinogre, both of which require owning and completing the Iceborne expansion’s campaign. The Safi’jiiva Siege quest is similar to the previously released Kulve Taroth siege, wherein four groups of four Hunters will work together to bring down this bigger, badder, angrier form of the original game’s final boss in true monster hunting fashion. Rewards are doled out based on how well the Siege goes and the real goal are the new Awakened weapons. This is a limited time event quest that ends on April 22, and additional details can be found here**. Stygian Zinogre, meanwhile, is a tougher version of the one encountered during the Iceborne campaign and awards the truly persistent players with materials needed for the new Palico and Zinogre equipment.

The announcement came via the official Monster Hunter Twitter account with an image of the planned updates for the next few months (see below). On the PC, players will be getting much of the content that's already been added to the consoles (such as Rajang and Safi'jiiva) over the next couple months, while console players will get a few special event quests to bide the time until April. Then, once Title Update 3 drops, both PC and console players will be getting new Arch-Tempered and Master Rank monsters to hunt along with a new festival. After that, all versions of the game will see the return of a "fan-favorite monster" in May, and more monsters and other updates after that.

Update 10.12.01 will fix the CPU and save issues for PC players, though it's not known when that update will go live just yet. In the mean time, with specific regards to the save issue, Capcom has recommended that players shut down the game should they get a message stating that existing save data cannot be read and if they would like to create new save data. Once the update gets applied, this should fix the issue so players can pick up again where they left off. For any players that did create new save data and therefore lost their old save data... I'm afraid there isn't any good news here. Hopefully you're enjoying your time with your new hunter and Palico?

Once the spookiest month of the year has run its course, Monster Hunter: World will be getting some skins from Capcom's spookiest series, Resident Evil.  Specifically, Resident Evil 2 versions of Leon and Claire will be added, as will zombi-fied hunters and the unstoppable Mr. X.  If the teaser trailer is to be believed, there will also be... quite a bit of dancing.

The silver lining here is that the delay isn't as long as the initial six-month differential between the console and PC releases for the base game. If you're interested in making the switch to the PC version, too, then this four month gap should give you time to play through the campaign and do some post-campaign hunts with a new character so you can be ready when Iceborn does finally arrive.

Squads within the context of Monster Hunter: World are essentially private lobbies for you and your friends. The in-game Gathering Hubs were locations where you could see/interact with other players (up to a max of 16) and post missions that those players could see. You could join public Gathering Hubs or make them limited to just your Squad. However, Squads were tricky. Only the player that created the Squad could invite others to it, and both players had to be online at the same time to join it. Once a player was a part of a Squad then things got easier because it worked as a kind of in-game friends list, but it was a lot of hoops to jump through to get to that point.

Not all the news is bad, though. Daisuke and Ryozo confirmed that there will be additional content for the game after Iceborne's release, similar to how the development team has continued to support World for the past year and a half. While the PC version of the expansion won't be arriving at the same time as the console version (September 6), Daisuke and Ryozo said that they are working to have it out as soon as possible.

First up, we've got the light weapons trailer, which focuses on the new Long Sword as well as extra options for existing armaments.  As you might expect, much of the footage concentrates on all the new ways you can pummel a monster's body/head as quickly as humanly possible.

As revealed last week in Sony's State of Play, the "Iceborne" expansion will arrive on Xbox One and PlayStation 4 on September 6th of this year.  Meanwhile, the PC version will come a little deeper into winter.  This latest expansion obviously introduces frostier environments to the game, as well as the ice-hardened foes that inhabit them.  Check out the gameplay trailer below for a closer look.

All of this info comes from the latest developer presentation from last Monday. In the presentation, producer Ryozo Tsujimoto walked through the updates that are planned for the next few months, and a big one that won't be available until later next year. First, here are the content updates that are coming soon to the console versions (PC will get these at later dates):
