It sounds like the PC version of the game will, at least initially, just be the "base game," i.e., Deviljho and Lunastra, two monsters that have been added to the console versions, won't be there at launch nor will many of the events. That content will get added in at a later date, but no timeframe has been specified just yet. What's more, based on what producer Ryozo Tsujimoto told PC Gamer, the game's visuals on the PC "will have parity with the console versions but we're considering releasing a free update after launch." So, the bad news is that PC players will (more or less) be hopping into the same Monster Hunter: World that launched on console back in January. The good news is that it sounds like they'll be pushing to get updates to the PC version much faster.

Team Up With 16 Hunters in New Siege Event for Monster Hunter: WorldJason Love

The announcement of this new "Siege" event came via the Capcom Unity Blog yesterday and along with the event there will be a content update (full notes here). Based on the language in the announcement, it doesn't seem like you'll be able to join in on this special hunt via the usual "Respond to SOS Flare." Instead, you'll either need to gather up all 16 members of your Squad at one time, or join specific Kulve Taroth sessions. Hunters are then divided up into four groups comprised of four hunters each, and while each hunting party will act independently in their own "instance" of the fight, all of the damage/investigation/part-breaking that's done to Kulve is pooled together across all of the hunting parties and all parties will get credit.

You can catch a recap of the full stream over on Capcom's Twitch account, and a text recap over on the Capcom blog, but here's a quick rundown of some of the bigger points:

The Monster Hunter series has always eluded me. The density of its systems, the endless grinding, and the esoteric style have all contributed to me bouncing off every title Capcom has released to this point. Then comes Monster Hunter: World. I have been enamoured with the game and simply cannot stop playing. I don’t know exactly what it is th...

We are putting together a Co-Op Review of the game, but we want to be sure we progress far enough along in it so we get past the initial areas and into some of the late-game/higher tier hunts. Thus far, though, Locke, Mike, and I have all been enjoying their time with it. Locke, in particular, is having a blast "doot"-ing his horn. There are few things Locke and I both think could be done better or tweaked to make for a more enjoyable play experience, but as Monster Hunter titles go, this one feels pretty good and not too bad to get into if you're a first-timer. The biggest issue with the co-op we have thus far is that if you want to progress through the story hunts with a friend, there's not exactly an easy way to do so. The easiest route is for one person to complete the quest/hunt and then join the other player. It's definitely not ideal. Fortunately, there are plenty of hunts to do together and you can always just head off on an Expedition for a little free-roam/free hunting in the different game areas.

Like any good third-person action titles these days, the in-game action is all but secondary to the real showstopper: fashion. Taking down a Great Jagras may be walk in the park, but you'll keep doing it until you get all the pieces necessary to craft that one piece of gear that perfectly accompanies the rest of your ensemble crafted from the parts of various monsters. If you're only interested in armor for its stats and don't really like the way any of it looks, then perhaps you'd like to run around swinging a Great Sword as Ryu? Beginning around the middle of this month, a new Event Quest will be added to the list that will task players with bringing down a Barroth (aka, the "Choo-Choo Train"). Successfully completing the Event Quest will reward players with a full armor set that transforms your hunter into the legendary Street Fighter. Players with a Street Fighter V or Street Fighter V: Arcade Edition save on their system will get Early Access to the quest.

Listen, I understand there are time crunches to get things done and out the door, and regrettably sometimes that means not being able to fix or include certain features. However, requiring a patch to enable a key component like online multiplayer is a pretty big thing as it means anyone who gets the disc version won't be able to play with friends until they download that patch. It's an annoyance for some, and an outright deal breaker for others. I guess as some consolation the patch also adds a pet pig called "Poogie."

The bundle will retails for $449.99 and is only available through GameStop. According to the PlayStation Blog post, it will be in "very limited quantities," so, you know, if you REALLY like Monster Hunter and you REALLY need/want a PS4 Pro, then you'll have to check in with your local brick-and-mortar and do the whole pre-order song and dance.

You can start downloading the beta on Wednesday, January 17. If you're debating about whether or not this "MonHun thing" is for you, this is a pretty great way to find out. The beta has all 14 of the different weapon types for you to try out, and while it doesn't exactly guide you through all of the various systems, you can always team up with that friend who's always telling you to try it out.

Ryozo Tsujimoto, the game's producer, posted a video to the official Monster Hunter: World YouTube channel yesterday with a release window for the PC version. Unfortunately, it won't be out until sometime "Autumn 2018." That means folks who are waiting to enjoy the first "next-gen" Monster Hunter title on their suped-up computer will have to wait a while longer.

Based on the news post announcing the beta over on the Monster Hunter: World website, it sounds like this will be the very same beta that was PS+ only a couple weeks ago. The beta can be played alone or with up to four friends online, and it will feature three hunting quests (Great Jagras, Barroth, and Anjanath). You'll be able to try out and use each of the 14 weapon types, and regardless of whether you team up with others or not, your friendly Palico will be along for the ride.

The open beta will run from December 9 to December 12 and all you'll need to participate is a PlayStation Plus membership. No sign up or limited space thing here, just go download the beta when it goes up on the PSN Store next month. The beta itself will include three specific hunt missions (a Great Jagras and an Anjanath in the Ancient Forest, and a Barroth in the Wildspire Waste) and it will support four player online co-op as well. There will also be a variety of weapons, Mantles, and other goodies you can try, as Community Manager Yuji Araujo detailed in the PlayStation Blog post:
