Some new features showcasing the Playstation 4 and the Xbox One's hardware arrive with this port. The power of next gen grants enhancements to the already stunning graphics for Rayman and his colorful crew, and each console receives special bonuses. Xbox One fans are granted time-sensitive achievements, and allowed access to a variety of console exclusive costumes for Rayman, including Splinter Ray (from Splinter Cell), Assassin Ray (from Assassin's Creed), and Vaas Ray (from Far Cry 3, though why you would want to turn a fun loving guy like Rayman into a mohawk-wielding sadist is beyond me.)

Although we wouldn't think it possible, Ubisoft swears the visuals in the upcoming versions of Rayman Legends have been improved. Because apparently they weren't gorgeous enough already? The screenshots certainly look good, we have to admit. The Xbox One version will include ten exclusive challenges to unlock time-limited achievements. PS4 owners get to use that fancy controller's touchpad to scratch Lucky Tickets as well as share screenshots and videos with the community. Remote play is even enabled with a PlayStation Vita in hand. No more pausing the game to go to the bathroom. Just take it with you.

Not long after its September launch, players of the Vita incarnation of Rayman Legends noticed something was amiss. The game hit all the big gaming platforms at about the same time, but strangely the portable system's copy felt a little light. Ubisoft quickly confirmed that the levels weren't there and would be making their way Vita-side before too long, but it still stung a little bit, you know? Especially when this game is all about practicing each level down to a memorized science.

The 28 levels present in every version of Rayman Legends except the Vita release are Invasion Levels, remixed speed run versions of existing stages that slap a short timer on the screen and challenge players to race to the end before it expires. That might not sound like a lot of missing terrain, but without Invasion Mode, collectible Teensies were reduced from 700 to 615 and an estimated 12% of the game's total content was lost. That's enough to summon the torches and pitchforks, especially when you consider the Vita version only supports two player co-op whereas the other versions allow four or even five players at a time. Ah, the price we pay for portability.

It's great to see support for platformers on next gen, even though they were originally released on current consoles. Anytime a great game comes out for an additional system should be a cause for some celebration. Besides, the new machines don't exactly have the most robust catalogs. 

Although Rayman Legends officially releases on most major platforms this September 3rd, those that can’t wait another week or so can look to grab the demo featuring a handful of levels and features to taste. These version's demos will also include the three levels spanning across the universe of Rayman and a small sample of the competitive mode: Invasion (a tough, remixed version of previous levels). The maps featured are “Teensies in Trouble”, “Toad Story”, and fan-favorite “Castle Rock”. Every map will contain their own Invasion Mode counterpart stages too.
